Director Nag Ashwin Shares A Cryptic Post After Deepika Padukone's Exit From Prabhas' Kalki 2898 AD Sequel

Hyderabad, September 19 - Director Nag Ashwin has shared a cryptic post, seemingly targeting Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone, after she was dropped from the sequel to Prabhas-fronted Kalki 2898 AD, following her allegedly over-the-top demands. The news of Deepika's departure came as a shock to her fans, but also not a surprise, given how things have gone in recent times. Meanwhile, Nag Ashwin has reacted to the development. The filmmaker took to Instagram and re-shared a video of Krishna's entry scene from Kalki, 2898 AD, captioning it, "You can't change what happened, but you can choose what happens next." Ashwin's cryptic story quickly went viral across social media platforms, with many speculating that it was aimed at Deepika. The users assume that the makers are clearly not happy with Deepika and are angry. But the users also point out that Nag Ashwin should not use code language to react to the same, and directly say things. Nonetheless, it was a big opportunity for Deepika to score limelight as her character will be the major highlight in Kalki 2, which is otherwise filled with star-studded. The actress essayed the role of Sumati, a pregnant lab subject of Project K and the prophesied mother of Kalki, in the 2023 hit Kalki 2898 AD. The shooting timeline of Kalki 2 is not revealed yet, but the majority of the shoot will take place next year. Some reports say it will commence in October this year with Kamal Haasan, but Prabhas and the rest of the team will join early next year. Stay tuned...

Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan's Multistarrer Confirmed, But With A Major Change

Chennai, September 17 - The Tamil film industry has been buzzing with a mutlistarrer, featuring the two icons of Indian cinema, Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan. The news about the duo coming together after many decades has been making noise for the last few weeks, especially since they have officially confirmed the mega collab. While the legendary duo have officially confirmed that they are coming together, the uncertainty over the director is still looming large. Interestingly, it was reported that Lokesh Kanagaraj, who has directed both the superstars in Coolie and Vikram, had narrated a two-hero script to them and was supposed to direct the film. But it seems the project is not happening with Lokesh anymore. According to the social media buzz, Lokesh Kanagaraj has backed out of the film, which will now reportedly be directed by some other director. The official confirmation about the same is not revealed yet, and if true, there is no clarity on why the Leo director is not directing it. There have been rumours that Pradeep Ranganathan might direct the film. Meanwhile, Rajinikanth told the media at Chennai airport that the movie will be produced by Haasan’s Raaj Kamal Films International and Red Giant Movies, but the director and script have not been finalised, which has hinted but confirmed that Lokesh Kanagaraj is not in the fray. Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan last appeared together in the 1979 fantasy film Alavuddinum Athbutha Vilakkum, following earlier collaborations in Ninaithale Inikkum (1979), Aval Appadithan (1978), and 16 Vayathinile (1977). Meanwhile, Rajinikanth will next be seen in director Nelson's Jailer 2, while Kamal Haasan has Shankar's Indian 2. Stay tuned...

Kamal Haasan Confirms Mega-Collab With Rajinikanth in Lokesh Kanagaraj Film

Chennai, September 7 - The stars have officially aligned for what can be called one of the biggest collaborations in Indian cinema as legendary Kamal Haasan has confirmed that he will be reuniting with superstar Rajinikanth for a multistarrer, likely to be directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. It was recently reported that Lokesh has narrated a script to both the Indian cinema legends, and now, the official confirmation straight from the horse's mouth has already sent waves of excitement across the film industry and among fans who have been waiting for decades to see the two legends share the screen again. Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth, who started their careers together in the 1970s, last acted in full-fledged roles opposite each other over four decades ago. While both went on to carve their own iconic paths in Indian cinema, their on-screen reunion has always remained a dream for cinephiles. The official confirmation was made during the SIIMA award event, when the host asked Kamal Haasan about the rumours of his reunion with Rajinikanth. The Vikram star said that he and Rajinikanth were supposed to collaborate long back, but they are indeed coming together. #KamalHaasan confirms collaboration with #Rajinikanth in #LokeshKanagaraj film🥵:"Rajini & myself are supposed to collaborate long back🫰. You may think we will compete with one another, but I see it as a chance to work with him. Other than that, there is nothing more." Even though Kamal Haasan didn't say anything about who will direct the film, the news of Lokesh is already out in the media. It will also mark his reunion with both the legendary stars, after Vikram with KH and recently released Coolie with Thalaivaar. Lokesh Kanagaraj has become one of the most sought-after filmmakers of this generation, known for his stylish narratives and the much-talked-about Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU). Though details about the film are being kept under wraps, the combination of Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, and Lokesh has already made this project one of the most anticipated films of all time. Sivakarthikeyan’s Cinematic Shift: Ayalaan to Amaran, and the Rise of Madharaasi

Sivakarthikeyan's evolution in Tamil cinema has been marked by increasingly ambitious projects, notably Ayalaan, Amaran, and the upcoming Madharaasi. Released in January 2024 after years of delay, Ayalaan was a sci-fi fantasy directed by R. Ravikumar and featured Sivakarthikeyan alongside Rakul Preet Singh with music by A.R. Rahman. ## The film's novelty lay in its alien-centric plot and extensive VFX work, which took over four years to complete. Despite pacing criticisms, it found favour with family audiences and collected an estimated ₹75 crore globally, with around ₹50 crore from Tamil Nadu. ## In contrast, Amaran, released in October 2024, was a patriotic war biopic based on Major Mukund Varadarajan, directed by Rajkumar Periyasamy and co-starring Sai Pallavi. Produced by Kamal Haasan's Raaj Kamal Films International, it became a major commercial and critical success, grossing ₹333.67 crore worldwide. ## It broke multiple records, becoming the second-highest-grossing Tamil film of 2024 and the eighth-highest of all time in the language, with a strong emotional core that resonated widely. Interestingly, despite fewer screens, Amaran outperformed bigger-budget films in footfalls, with audiences and critics praising its heartfelt storytelling and war sequences. ## Here is a list of his notable movies that grossed 100 cr:  ## Doctor (2021) - ₹ 100.5 Cr ## Don: (2022) - ₹ 114 Cr ## Amaran (2024) - ₹ 333.67 Cr ##Now, anticipation surrounds Madharaasi, a psychological action thriller slated for release in September 2025. Directed by A.R. Murugadoss and featuring music by Anirudh Ravichander, the film boasts a strong ensemble cast including Vidyut Jammwal, Biju Menon, and Vikranth. ## Backed by a big budget, it is expected to push Sivakarthikeyan further into mass action territory while offering depth through Murugadoss’s signature narrative style. In essence, while Ayalaan showcased Sivakarthikeyan’s genre experimentation, Amaran proved his mettle in serious cinema and box office dominance, and Madharaasi could be the defining next step in an already remarkable career. ## Stat tuned...

Top 10 Biggest Indian Overseas Grossers of 2025: Rajinikanth's Coolie Rules the Charts

Mumbai, August 31 - 2025 has turned into a good year so far for Indian films in the overseas market, with movies from the Bollywood, Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam industries making a splash at the global box office. From grand romantic sagas to star-powered action blockbusters, audiences across the world have embraced Indian cinema like never before. Sun Pictures' gangster action drama, Coolie, starring superstar Rajinikanth, was released on August 14, and within no time, it has stormed to the top spot among the biggest Indian grossers at the overseas box office. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, the film is yet to complete its first weekend, already grossing over 150 crores overseas in 5 days. Yash Raj Films' romantic drama, Saiyaara, starring debutante Ahaan Pandey and Aneet Padda, became a global sensation. This has been the biggest success story of Indian cinema this year. Directed by Mohit Suri, Saiyaara blended soulful music, passionate storytelling, and stunning visuals, making it a cross-cultural hit. The film's theme connected not only with Indian audiences but across the world, making it the biggest Indian blockbuster in the international market. The Malayalam megahit, Empuraan, starring Mohanlal and directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, was hit by controversy in India, but that didn't stop it from making a big hit at the box office, not just in India but also internationally. It continued the Lucifer saga with high-octane political intrigue and action. The film’s international fan base, built from the first part, turned Empuraan into a global blockbuster. Thudarum, one of the biggest Malayalam blockbusters in recent times, stunned the trade and went on to score big at the box office. The action thriller, starring Mohanlal, did wonders globally and became one of only three Malayalam titles to cross 200 crores worldwide, including close to 100 crores gross from overseas markets. The historical epic, Chhaava, starring Vicky Kaushal as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, impressed both domestic and global audiences and is currently the biggest Indian grosser worldwide with over 800 crores in collection. This Laxman Utekar's directorial's grand battle sequences, rich production design, and a patriotic storyline drove its stellar overseas run with close to 100 crores gross. Housefull 5, Bollywood's favourite comedy franchise, returned bigger and zanier. Despite the disappointment of not living up to expectations, this Akshay Kumar-led film did decently at the box office and is so far among the top overseas grossers. The film's mixed slapstick humour, exotic locations, and star power captured the attention of family audiences abroad, especially in the Gulf and the UK. Directed by Adhik Ravichandran, Good Bad Ugly marked a major comeback for superstar Ajith Kumar, after the big failure of Vidaamuyarchi. Ajith's vintage avatar in the movie was celebrated by the fans worldwide. It became the first film of the actor to hit 200 crores worldwide gross, including a good performance in overseas markets. War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR, has underperformed at the box office, be it domestic or overseas. In the first 5 days, the film grossed approximately 63 crores internationally. The movie is directed by Ayan Mukerji and produced by Yash Raj Films. After the failure of Laal Singh Chaddha, Aamir Khan returned to winning ways with Sitaare Zameen Par, a heartfelt comedy-drama that follows a suspended basketball coach who must serve community service by helping a team of players with disabilities prepare for a tournament. Just like Ajith Kumar, SZP proved to be a comeback movie for Aamir Khan by emerging as a box office hit in India and overseas. Sikandar, one of the major letdowns of the year, this Salman Khan-led action drama failed to perform to expectations despite featuring among the top 10 biggest overseas grossers. Directed by a seasoned director like AR Murugadoss, Sikandar finished below 200 crores worldwide, while its overseas performance was also not good. What Sikandar proved for Bollywood, Thug Life met the same fate for Kollywood. Kamal Haasan's much-awaited action-thriller, directed by Mani Ratnam, blended artful filmmaking with mass entertainment. The film's international premieres were major events, boosting its overseas revenue. However, it turned into a big disaster, failing to capitalise on the huge buzz. Before scoring his biggest grosser with Good Bad Ugly, Ajith Kumar had a big setback with the action-drama Vidamuyarchi. It was among the biggest failures. With heavyweights like War 2 and Coolie yet to arrive, the overseas box office race of 2025 is far from over. But for now, Saiyaara sits at the top, proving that heartfelt romance can still rule the world stage in the age of action spectacles. Stay tuned...

Lokesh Kanagaraj To Push Kaithi 2 Back Again To Direct A Dream Combo of Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan?

Chennai, August 19 - Director Lokesh Kanagaraj might be up for another reshuffle in his future film timeline, and if that happens, actor Karthi, and more than him, the fans of the Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU) will have to wait longer for the much-awaited sequel to Kaithi. ## After the blockbuster Leo, Lokesh teamed up with superstar Rajinikanth for the gangster action drama Coolie, which is currently playing in theatres. For a long time, the filmmaker had confirmed his plans to return to Kaithi 2 with Karthi after completing Coolie. But now, the latest buzz suggests that a different, and perhaps even bigger, project might take priority. ## The latest blockbuster buzz in Tamil media suggests that Lokesh is planning one of India's biggest multistarrers and has reportedly narrated a two-hero script to the superstars Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan for the same. The legendary duo is said to have given their nod, reportedly asking the filmmaker to move ahead with the project. ## Originally reportedly planned before the COVID-19 pandemic, this ambitious film is said to revolve around two ageing gangsters in a large-scale cinematic adventure, and will likely be produced by Kamal Haasan’s Raaj Kamal Films International (RKFI). If reports are to be believed, it could be Lokesh's immediate next. ## The news is indeed massive, and perhaps the biggest collaboration of Indian cinema in the recent past. But at the same time, it also brings a bittersweet feeling for fans awaiting Kaithi 2, wanting to see Lokesh get back to his strong zone of Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU). ## The stars are probably not aligning for Kaithi 2, for which the script is said to be ready, subject to some changes. Interestingly, it was supposed to be made before Lokesh's Leo with Thalapathy Vijay, but plans changed as the director picked up Coolie, while Karthi also had a few films to complete. ## That said, a film uniting two titans of Indian cinema, Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan, under Lokesh's vision promises to be a once-in-a-lifetime cinematic event. Fans may be ready to sacrifice the wait for Kaithi 2 if it means witnessing this dream project. However, an official confirmation from the makers is still awaited. ## Stay tuned...

With Coolie, Director Lokesh Kanagaraj Joins the Elite 400-Crore League Alongside SS Rajamouli and Rajkumar Hirani

Chennai, August 19 - Director Lokesh Kanagaraj teamed with superstar Rajinikanth for the first time for a gangster action drama film Coolie, which had a record-breaking opening weekend ever, after the record opening day, for a Tamil title. The movie entered the 400 crores club at the worldwide box office on its 5th day, and led the director to an elite club. ## With Coolie, Lokesh Kanagaraj has officially entered the elite club of Indian filmmakers who have delivered three consecutive 400+ crore worldwide grossers, standing tall alongside legends like SS Rajamouli and Rajkumar Hirani. Arguably the most bankable director of Tamil cinema currently, Lokesh keeps winning at the box office. ## The filmmaker began this extraordinary streak with Vikram (2022), a Kamal Haasan starrer that revived the superstar's box office dominance and grossed over 400 crore worldwide. He followed it up with Leo (2023), featuring Thalapathy Vijay, which, despite polarised reviews, went on to collect over 600 crore worldwide, becoming one of the highest-grossing Tamil films of all time. Now with Coolie (2024), Lokesh has achieved the rare hat-trick, making him the only Tamil filmmaker to do so. ## This puts him in the same league as SS Rajamouli, who delivered path-breaking blockbusters like Baahubali: The Beginning, Baahubali: The Conclusion, and RRR, each setting new benchmarks not just in India but across the world, where his last two films went on to gross over 1000 crores worldwide. Similarly, Bollywood's titan Rajkumar Hirani struck gold with 3 Idiots, PK, Sanju, and Dunku, all surpassing the 400-crore milestone. ## For Lokesh, achieving the feat of delivering 3 consecutive 400 crores grossers in the relatively smaller Tamil market makes the accomplishment even more remarkable. His rise reflects the growing stature of Tamil cinema, even though it is yet to fully explore some of the key markets, including the Hindi belt. With his streak of consecutive blockbusters, he has proven that strong storytelling combined with star power and scale can deliver massive results. ## As he continues to shape the blockbuster Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU), along with standalone films with some of India's biggest stars, the young filmmaker is now firmly established as one of the most powerful voices in Indian cinema today. Lokesh's next films promise bigger results with LCU's Kaithi 2, Rolex, and Vikram 2, and a standalone film with Aamir Khan in the pipeline. ## Stay tuned...

Coolie Movie Preview: Rajinikanth’s Diamond Jubilee Honored with Iconic Title Card as Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Explosive Union Set to Ignite the Big Screen

With just three days to go, the wait for Superstar Rajinikanth and Lokesh Kanagaraj’s much-awaited collaboration, Coolie, is about to end. Slated for a massive worldwide release on August 14th, this magnum opus is already being hailed as one of the biggest Indian releases of the year. From its inception to its final cut, Coolie has been a journey brimming with hype, spectacle, and history in the making.Initially announced as Thalaivar 171, the official title Coolie was revealed through a thunderous announcement video, reimagining Rajinikanth’s iconic Ranga dialogue. The clever punchline — “Mudichidlaam ma” — playfully mirrored Kamal Haasan’s “Aarambikalaama” from Vikram, instantly setting the internet ablaze.Filming kicked off in July 2024, with an ensemble cast that only heightened expectations — Nagarjuna, Sathyaraj, Uppendra, Soubin Shahir, and Shruti Haasan. Then came the whispers of Aamir Khan joining the project, confirmed unofficially during the Jaipur schedule in December, where he filmed crucial scenes with Rajinikanth. Uppendra later made it official in April 2025.By February, buzz erupted over Pooja Hegde’s special dance number, which turned into the electrifying “Monica” track released in July — a riot of colours, infectious beats, and sizzling chemistry with Soubin Shahir. In late June, the first single “Chikitu” dropped — a kuthu party banger by Anirudh with T. Rajendar’s flamboyance and Arivu’s punchy lyrics, serving vintage Rajini dance vibes straight from the 80s. ##Shot with a colossal budget of ₹375 crore (with Rajinikanth's renumeration ₹150 crore and Lokesh ₹50 crore), Coolie made history in June as the biggest overseas buy for a Tamil film, fetching over ₹75 crore. In a surprising twist, the film earned an ‘A’ certificate — the first in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s career — promising unflinching action and emotional grit. Addressing fan theories, Lokesh remarked, “Everyone thinks Coolie is sci-fi or time travel… but the truth will surprise you.” The final trailer, just three minutes long, unleashed goosebumps — combining explosive stunts, layered emotions, and a galaxy of stars. It hinted at a Rajinikanth performance unlike anything seen before. With a runtime of 170 minutes, Coolie isn’t just a release — it’s a phenomenon waiting to explode. ##The excitement is further amplified as the film doubles as a diamond jubilee tribute, marking Rajinikanth’s 50 years in Indian cinema.Director Lokesh Kanagaraj and composer Anirudh Ravichander have crafted a special, never-before-seen title card — a cinematic homage to Thalaivar’s golden legacy. This moment is set to resonate with fans across generations, ensuring that Coolie is not only a visual spectacle but also an emotional celebration of an icon’s extraordinary journey. With tributes, action, music, and sheer star power colliding, Coolie promises to be more than just a movie — it’s history, emotion, and celebration rolled into one grand cinematic event. ##A Glance at Coolie’s Pre-Release Collections Across Key Markets ##As of roughly four days before release, Coolie's opening-day pre-sales in India have reached around ₹14 crore gross, with the Tamil version alone contributing approximately ₹13.7 crore, followed by smaller earnings from Hindi, Telugu, and Kannada versions. ##Aggregate advance bookings across India currently stand at ₹20.26 crore. ##BookMyShow reports 706,000 tickets sold across all languages—making it the fourth-highest pre-sales ever for a Tamil film. ##Coolie has already emerged as a North American box office powerhouse before its release, with confirmed advance sales touching USD 1.7 million across the U.S. and Canada. This includes USD 1.447 million from the U.S. alone, generated from over 56,000 tickets sold across 467 locations. ## Coolie has already surged ahead of War 2 in North American pre-sales, establishing a clear lead in the region. With momentum still building, the film is on track to achieve significantly higher opening numbers, positioning it as the stronger box office contender between the two well before release.

Lokesh Kanagaraj Says Karthi Is the Reason for His Success As a Director, Promises Kaithi 2 Will Be a Huge Hit

Chennai, August 6 - Director Lokesh Kanagaraj is busy with the promotion of superstar Rajinikanth-fronted gangster action drama Coolie, one of the most awaited films of the year. As Lokesh navigates the excitement ahead of Coolie's release, the director is also looking forward to returning to his signature cinematic universe with the much-hyped sequel, Kaithi 2. ## During a recent interview, the filmmaker encountered a silly question when the interviewer asked him whether is regrets making Kaithi 2 after doing films with industry giants like Rajinikant, Vijay, and Kamal Haasan. Lokesh answered it sensibly while showing his huge admiration for actor Karthi, crediting him as the catalyst behind his rise as a successful director. ## "Karthi sir gave me my break. If I am here today, it's because of him. He trusted me when no one else would. Kaithi changed my life." The director reflected on how Kaithi (2019) became a turning point not just in his career but also in Tamil cinema, laying the foundation for the Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU). ## He added that Karthi's commitment, humility, and belief in his vision gave him the confidence to pursue bold storytelling styles.
