Top Films With 100 Crore Openings At The Indian Box Office: Prabhas Dominates With Five Films

Hyderabad, September 26 - The Indian box office has seen several historic milestones over the last few years, but only a few films have managed to cross the coveted 100 crore mark on the first day in the domestic market. Dominated by Telugu origin films, the elite club is reserved for the biggest spectacles that not only ride on star power but also on unprecedented hype, massive release scales, and pan-India appeal. At the very top of the list is Pan India superstar Allu Arjun's Pushpa 2: The Rule, which stormed into cinemas with an earth-shattering 209 crore opening in India — the biggest single-day haul ever recorded in the country. Close on its heels are director SS Rajamouli's blockbusters RRR and Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, which grossed 156 crore and 153 crore respectively, setting benchmarks that seemed unbeatable at the time. Yash's KGF Chapter 2 followed with 134.50 crore, while Prabhas made his mark again with Kalki 2898 AD at 116 crore, Salaar at 107.10 crore, Saaho at 105 crore and Adipurush at 102.50 crore gross. The latest film in this prestigious club is Pawan Kalyan's They Call Him OG, which is estimated to gross over 100 crores in India. What's remarkable is that, except for one film, every single one of these 100 crore openers comes from South Indian cinema. The Telugu industry, in particular, has redefined the meaning of a "mass opening" in Indian cinema. Backed by visionary filmmakers like Rajamouli, Sukumar, Nag Ashwin, and Prashanth Neel, and powered by stars such as Allu Arjun, Prabhas, Ram Charan, Jr NTR, and Yash, these films have created a cultural and commercial wave that Bollywood has yet to match. Today, breaching the 100 crore mark on opening day in India has become the ultimate benchmark for any big-ticket release. With upcoming projects from the same powerhouses — be it sequels, mythological spectacles, or high-octane action dramas — the club is only expected to expand further. As Indian cinema continues to scale new heights, these films remain towering examples of how a perfect mix of scale, vision, and star power can turn a release into a nationwide festival. Pawan Kalyan's OG Director Sujeeth Joins SS Rajamouli, Prashanth Neel, and Lokesh Kanagaraj In The Back-To-Back 100 Crore Openers

Hyderabad, September 25 - Scoring 100 crore worldwide on the very first day is one of the toughest milestones in Indian cinema. Though the milestone is now not out of reach, only a handful of films have achieved that, and only 4 directors have managed to achieve this back-to-back. Director Sujeeth, who has patiently worked on superstar Pawan Kalyan's They Call Him OG after Prabhas-fronted Saaho, has joined the elite league of SS Rajamouli, Prashanth Neel, and Lokesh Kanagaraj in delivering back-to-back 100 crores openers at the worldwide box office. 1. SS Rajamouli – Baahubali 2 (2017), RRR (2022) The pioneer of pan-Indian blockbusters, Rajamouli redefined the Indian box office. Baahubali 2 shocked the trade with an earth-shattering 200+ crore day one, followed by RRR, which repeated the magic with another 200 crore+ worldwide opening. He is the only Indian director to achieve this feat. 2. Prashanth Neel – KGF Chapter 2 (2022), Salaar (2023) Neel proved his mettle as a mass-action storyteller with Kannada superstar Yash-fronted KGF: Chapter 2 and cemented it with Pan-India superstar Prabhas-fronted Salaar Part 1: Ceasefire. Both films crossed 150+ crore globally on day one, making him one of the few to achieve this consistency. 3. Lokesh Kanagaraj – Leo (2023), Coolie (2025) Lokesh has become the face of Tamil cinema's new-age mass entertainers. After Thalapathy Vijay's Leo scored a 140 crore+ opening, the mavrick filmmaker followed it up with superstar Rajinikanth's Coolie, which became the first Tamil movie to take the opening of 150+ crores worldwide. 4. Sujeeth – Saaho (2019), They Call Him OG (2025) Sujeeth surprised the industry with Prabhas-starrer action thriller Saaho's 125+ crore global debut and has now repeated the feat with superstar Pawan Kalyan's gangster action thriller They Call Him OG. With this, he officially joins the league of filmmakers delivering consecutive ₹100 crore openers. Stay tuned...

From Dangal To Lokah: The Highest-Grossing Films Across Six Major Indian Film Industries

Mumbai, September 20 - The Indian cinema is the most diverse in the world with its vast landscape of languages and cultures, each with its own set of superstars, styles, and record-breaking blockbusters. Over the years, the country has delivered rich results at the box office, not just with the mainstream Hindi cinema, but also with regional cinema, where films across different genres unlocked new potential. As the Indian cinema continues to evolve and come closer than ever, there have been certain films which have not only ruled their regional box office but also established themselves as benchmarks for their respective industries. Here's a look at the current all-time biggest hits from six major Indian film industries, which have set benchmarks for their other films to achieve. Hindi Cinema – Dangal (2016) Aamir Khan's sports drama Dangal (2016) remains the undisputed king of not just Bollywood, but of Indian cinema. With a staggering 2070 crore worldwide gross, the wrestling drama became a global sensation, largely due to its phenomenal run in China, which contributed over 60% to its total collection. Years later, no Indian film has managed to surpass its worldwide record. Telugu Cinema – Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (2017) While Dangal remains the biggest Indian blockbuster, it was director S.S. Rajamouli's magnum opus Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (2017) that changed the game for Indian cinema. Starring Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, and Anushka Shetty, the epic fantasy collected 1788 crore worldwide and showcased the true potential of Telugu films and also broke the language barrier to emerge as a pan-India spectacle, with a large contribution from the Hindi language. Kannada Cinema – KGF Chapter 2 (2022) Kannada cinema was largely limited to its home state before the Yash-fronted KGF franchise changed the game for it. And it was KGF Chapter 2 (2022) that proved that Kannada cinema could dominate globally. With its raw action, style, and storytelling, the film amassed an extraordinary 1230 crore worldwide, cementing itself as the industry's biggest blockbuster to date. Tamil Cinema – 2.0 (2018) The Tamil film industry has failed to match its fellow Southern industries in terms of potential, but it has seen a continuous rise over the last few years. However, despite multiple 500 crores blockbusters, it is Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar's sci-fi extravaganza 2.0 (2018), directed by Shankar, which is still the biggest Tamil grosser to date. The film, packed with cutting-edge VFX, grossed ₹691 crore worldwide. Malayalam Cinema – Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra (2025) The Malayalam cinema has been on an unreal rise for the last few years. From being limited to the regional barrier to breaking into the Pan-India market, the industry has made sure that it competes with the giants of Indian cinema. And it can't be a prouder moment for the industry that a female-led film is leading the charge. Kalyani Priyadarshan's superhero saga Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra, with a 267+ crore worldwide gross, has become the industry's highest-grossing film of all time, surpassing big names like Mohanlal's Empuraan. Punjabi Cinema – Jatt & Juliet 3 (2024) The Punjabi film industry has been struggling to deliver results at the box office due to various reasons. It has scored only two 100 crores grossers, with Diljit Dosanjh and Neeru Bajwa's romantic comedy Jatt & Juliet 3 (2024) being the biggest of them. It became the second-ever Punjabi movie, after Carry On Jatta 3 (2023), to cross the 100 crore milestone, grossing 102.60 crore worldwide. Stay tuned...

100 Crore Kannada Grosser At The Worldwide Box Office: Blockbuster Su From So Joins Yash's KGF 2 and Four Others

Bengaluru, August 17 - Kannada cinema has delivered yet another remarkable milestone at the worldwide box office. Actor-producer Raj B. Shetty's comedy-drama Su From So has emerged as a surprise 100 crore blockbuster, joining an exclusive list of just a handful of Kannada films that have crossed the century mark in global collections. Kannada industry, despite the potential, has been the least successful South Indian film industry in terms of delivering 100 crore movies. And when a film achieves this mark, it becomes a monumental feat worthy of huge celebrations, unlike other industries, where 100 crores becomes the norm. The success of Su From So comes at a time when Kannada cinema was going through a relatively dull phase in 2024, with failure after failure. Released on July 25, the film steadily grew with strong word of mouth, eventually storming past the coveted figure. It is the highest-grossing Kannada movie of the year by a long margin. Su From So is only the sixth Kannada film ever to achieve the milestone of 100 crores gross worldwide. This is the first 100 crores Kannada grosser since Rishab Shetty's mega blockbuster Kantara Chapter 1, which was released in September 2022. Have a look at the complete list of 100 crores Kannada grossers - KGF: Chapter 2 (1215 crore) - Yash's magnum opus, directed by Prashanth Neel, remains the biggest ever Kannada film and one of the highest-grossing Indian films in history. It is the only Kannada and one of only eight Indian films to breach the milestone of 1000 crores worldwide. Kantara (408 crore) - Directed and headlined by Rishab Shetty, the divine folklore action-drama shocked trade analysts by becoming a cultural and commercial phenomenon worldwide, and is currently the second biggest Kannada grosser of all-time. KGF: Chapter 1 (237.75 crore) - It was the first Kannada movie to breach the 100 crores milestone worldwide. The film that started the KGF storm, turning Yash into a pan-India superstar and proving Kannada cinema's global potential. 100 Crore Kannada Grosser At The Worldwide Box Office Rank Film Title Total Worldwide GBOC Release Year 1.KGF: Chapter 2₹ 1215.00 Cr20222.Kantara₹ 408.00 Cr2022 3.KGF: Chapter 1₹ 237.75 Cr2018 4.Su From So₹ 121+ Cr2025 5.777 Charlie₹ 102.75 Cr2022 6.Vikrant Rona₹ 100+ Cr2022 Note: Overseas collection of 777 Charlie and Vikrant Rona might be underreported as data are not available. (as of September 4, 2025) Su From So (121+ crore) - The latest entrant, Raj B. Shetty's unique blend of comedy and drama, has found massive love from audiences, bringing Kannada cinema back into the spotlight. 777 Charlie (102.75 crore) - The heartwarming dog adventure drama, fronted by Rakshit Shetty, connected with families and animal lovers, pushing it past the century mark. It is hailed as one of the finest films of Kannada cinema in recent times. Vikrant Rona (100+ crore) - Kannada star Kichcha Sudeep's fantasy action entertainer, with its stylish visuals and grand scale, managed to go past 100 crores worldwide. It was one of the most hyped Kannada movies, but the film somewhat underperformed. Even though the success count of Kannada cinema has largely been underwhelming, it now proudly has six worldwide 100 crore grossers, a feat that only a few years ago seemed far-fetched. The trend shows that while mega spectacles like KGF and Kantara set records, even smaller-budget, content-driven films like Su From So can emerge victorious at the box office if backed by strong storytelling and word of mouth. As the industry looks ahead, there are a few films, including Yash's Toxic and Rishab Shetty's Kantara 2, in the making, which are sure to find their place in the biggest Kannada grossers. The industry, however, will hope that more and more tentpole films are put under production to increase the success count.

Top 10 Biggest Indian Openers At The Worldwide Box Office: Pawan Kalyan's They Call Him OG Takes 8th Spot

Chennai, September 27 - In the opening day box office battle, superstar Pawan Kalyan has officially entered the all-time top 10 list with his latest blockbuster They Call Him OG, directed by Sujeeth. Released on September 25, the gangster action drama stormed the global box office with one of the biggest openings for an Indian film, cementing Power Star's dominance even in the era of pan-India cinema. The race for the biggest Indian opener has grown fierce over the years. It all began with SS Rajamouli's Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (2017), which not only redefined Indian box office history but also became the first Indian film to cross 100 crore and 200 crore worldwide on day one. The director later broke his own record with RRR (2022), which took global openings to another level. In 2024, Indian cinema scaled unprecedented heights when Allu Arjun's Pushpa 2 – The Rule shook the industry with a 275 crore worldwide opening, almost touching the (still) unthinkable 300 crore mark. While OG didn't break into the top five, it still paved its path to history, delivering the biggest-ever opening for PK and ranking among the Top 10 Biggest Indian Openers of All Time. Box Office: Su From So Becomes Kannada Cinema's Biggest Surprise of 2025, Tops 100 Crore Gross Worldwide In 23 Days

Bengaluru, August 15 - The unpredictability of the box office has thrown another big surprise to provide some relief to Kannada cinema, which has been bleeding this year with failure after failure. The industry gets a much-needed breather as actor-producer Raj B. Shetty's comedy-drama Su From So has stunned the trade by emerging as a true-blue blockbuster. ## Directed by J. P. Thuminad, the film released on July 25 to limited pre-release buzz but has defied all expectations. As of now, it has grossed approximately 98 crores worldwide, including 85+ crores gross in India, in just 22 days, and has crossed 100 crores worldwide today as I type this. ## This achievement will not only make it the highest-grossing Kannada film of 2025, but also a rare box office phenomenon in a year that has otherwise seen Kannada films underperform massively. The domestic collection of the film includes around 76 crores gross from the home state, Karnataka alone. ## Produced by Shashidhar Shetty Baroda, Ravi Rai Kalasa, and Raj B. Shetty under the Lighter Buddha Films banner, the film features an ensemble cast including Shaneel Gautham, J. P. Thuminad, Sandhya Arakere, Prakash Thuminad, Deepak Rai Panaje, Mime Ramdas, and Raj B. Shetty himself. The team's grounded approach to storytelling and authentic depiction of local culture has been widely praised.## Set in the coastal village of Marlur linked to Someshwara, the story of the movie follows Ashoka, a carefree young man whose innocent crush spirals into rumours of possession by a ghost named Sulochana, upending village life through a cascade of comedic supernatural events. ## Stay tuned...

Ramayana's Rs. 4000 Crore Budget Shocks Netizens – Sets New Benchmark for Indian Cinema

Mumbai, July 15 - Director Nitesh Tiwari's big screen adaptation of Ramayana is officially the costliest Indian film by a long margin, after producer Namit Malhotra revealed that the budget for this 2-part epic will be in the range of Rs. 4000 crores. ## In a recent podcast, Malhotra said that they have been working on this mega project for the past 6-7 years and by the time they are done with both parts, the budget will be around $500 million, which equals roughly Rs. 4000 crores. ## "We are making the largest film in the world for the greatest story and greatest epic that the world should see. I think it's still cheaper than some of the Hollywood films' budgets. I think we are making a bigger film at a lower cost. For me, it's not a money-driven thing", Malhotra said. ## Ramayana Budget Shocks Netizens ## While the budget of Ramayana is undoubtedly the highest ever for any Indian production, netizens are still not able to digest the fact that this project is costing Rs. 4000 crore, even though everyone is aware that some of the world's finest technicians with the best technology are working on it. ## Netizens are sharing their thoughts on social media and asking if Ramayana has that global pull to recover this budget.
