Sivakarthikeyan's Madharaasi vs Amaran Box Office: State-Wise Opening Weekend Comparison

Chennai, September 8 - The rising Tamil star Sivakarthikeyan's psychological action thriller film Madharaasi opened in the worldwide cinemas this weekend. Despite the low buzz, the film managed to make a mark at the box office with a good collection in India and overseas. Directed by AR Murugadoss, Madharaasi marks his maiden collaboration with Sivakarthikeyan and a reunion with Vidyut Jammwal. The film opened to mostly positive reviews in the home market, particularly in Tamil Nadu, and a mixed reception elsewhere, which was also reflected in its opening weekend business. Madharasi scored a hat-trick of double-digit scores in Tamil Nadu, even though the trend remained on the downward side. After opening to over 12+ crores gross, the film scored 11 crores on Saturday and around 10.50 crores on Sunday to close the opening weekend with approximately 34 crores gross in the state. Overall, Madharaasi grossed approximately 43 crores opening weekend in India, which is the second biggest for Sivakarthikeyan after Amaran, which minted big 95+ crores in its 4-day weekend in 2024. Overseas, the latest blockbuster has scored an estimated 20 crores gross, pushing its worldwide collection to around 63 crores. In comparison, Amaran had scored 140 crores worldwide. While the opening weekend collections of Madharasi are respectable, it becomes crucial for the film to hold well in the coming days to emerge as a box office hit. Sikandar Director AR Murugadoss Responds To Why Tamil Cinema Is Not Able To Produce 1000 Crore Films

Chennai, August 18 - Tamil director AR Murugadoss, who last directed superstar Salman Khan's Sikandar, has been in the news for the past few weeks for various reasons. The director caught everyone's attention recently when he blamed the language barrier for the box office failure of Sikandar, even though he had delivered a couple of big blockbusters in Hindi. ## A few weeks after his statement regarding Sikandar's failure went viral, the Ghajini director gave another statement, which is making a lot of noise on social media. During the promotion of his upcoming film Madharaasi, starring Sivakarthikeyan, Murugadoss explained why Tamil films are not earning 1000 crores worldwide, while other top industries do. ## Speaking to Valaipechu Voice, the director observed that Tamil filmmakers approach cinema differently from their counterparts in other industries. "Filmmakers in other languages tend to concentrate on entertaining people only, whereas Tamil directors tend to view cinema from an educational standpoint," he said. ## He noted that "Tamil cinema typically carries messages of what viewers should or should not do, which impacts their commercial success," while stressing that "Tamil directors are not to be compared directly with filmmakers from other regions because their goals are different." ## Meanwhile, ARM's Madharaasi is scheduled to release on September 5. Vidyut Jammwal To Make Hollywood Debut With Legendary's Live-Action 'Street Fighter' movie

Mumbai, July 15 - India's action star Vidyut Jammwal is set for his Hollywood debut with Legendary Pictures' live-action Street Fighter movie, based on the video games from Capcom, according to the report by Deadline. Vidyut Jammwal, who has been deliberate about the project, will play the role of Dhalsim, a yogi with fire-spitting abilities — a fundamentally peaceful man who fights to support his family. The character was first introduced in Street Fighter II in 1991. The project is currently in development by Legendary and distributed by Sony Pictures. The film will be directed by Kitao Sakurai. Earlier, YouTuber twins Danny and Michael Philippou of the channel RackaRacka were in talks to direct the film, but later dropped out of the movie due to other commitments. As has already been announced, Street Fighter cast will also include Andrew Koji as Ryu, Noah Centineo as Ken, Callina Liang as Chun-Li, David Dastmalchian as M. Bison, Cody Rhodes as Guile, Jason Momoa as Blanka, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson as Balrog, Orville Peck as Vega, Andrew Schulz as Dan Hibiki, Roman Reigns as Akuma, and Hirooki Goto as E. Honda. Mumbai, February 25 - Yami Gautam-fronted Article 370 has had a very good first weekend at the domestic box office, scoring around 23 crores net over 3 days. In an encouraging sign, the films showed good growth over the weekend. ## According to early estimates, the political thriller minted 9.50-10 crores net collection on its first Sunday. The jump is around 25% from Saturday collection of approximately 7.50 crores net which is a very good improvement for a movie with limited audiences. ## It will be a litmus test for the movie on Monday which is considered a make-or-break day as far as the box office prospects. Mumbai, February 24 - After a good first day, Yami Gautam-starrer Article 370 shows a very good spike of around 30% on its second day. The jump today is a huge positive sign for the film as the opening day collection came due to discounted prices but today the film has normal rates. ## According to early estimates, the political thriller scored an estimated 7.50 (+/-) crores net collection, taking the total cume to approximately 13.40 crores net in two days. The movie has set itself up for a big Sunday as the first weekend looks to be around 22-25 crores net. ## The opening of the film was encouraging with discounted ticket prices but there were doubts about whether it could hold the collection with normal rates. Directed by Aditya Suhas Jambhale is scheduled to hit screens on February 23. ## The film is seeing an excellent response in advance sales which comes as a big surprise to many, however, the pre-sales are being propelled by the cinema lovers' day across multiplexes with a discounted price of rs. 99. ## In 3 national chains (PVR, INOX, Cinepolis), Article 370 has sold over 80K tickets so far.
