Chennai, September 12 - The Tamil cinema is bracing up for a major box office showdown on Pongal 2026 after Sivakarthikeyan's much-awaited period political drama film Parashakti confirms indirect clash with Thalapathy Vijay's swan song Jana Nayagan. Directed by Sudha Kongara, Parashakti is reportedly based on true events, revolving around the Anti-Hindi agitations in Tamil Nadu that happened in 1965. On Friday (September 12), the makers announced that this much-awaited movie will be hitting worldwide cinemas on January 14, 2026, coinciding with the Pongal festival. Produced by Dawn Pictures, Parashakti was initially supposed to be headlined by Suriya, who backed out for some reason. It has Sreeleela as the female lead, alongside Ravi Mohan, who plays the antagonist. The film also stars Rana Daggubati, Atharvaa, Basil Joseph, and others. Parashakti will be released four days after Thalapathy Vijay's final film Jana Nayagan, before his political entry. Box Office: 'Dragon' Scored A Huge First Week Worldwide

Chennai, February 28 - The Tamil film industry has its first Blockbuster in the form of a coming-of-age comedy-drama Dragon. The film is headlined by the rising Tamil star Pradeep Ranganathan who has also written the script with Ashwath Marimuthu. ## Directed by Ashwath Marimuthu, Dragon has completed its first week, grossing approximately 77.50 crores at the worldwide box office. This already makes it the second highest-grossing Tamil movie of 2025, behind only Ajith Kumar's Vidaamuyarchi (136 crores gross). ## Released on February 21, Dragon opened to super positive reviews and reception from the audience which led to the biggest opening for the actor with double-digit numbers worldwide. The movie showed impressive growth over the weekend and remained rock solid during the weekdays to put up huge box office numbers. ## In India, the film has grossed approximately 58 crores, including over 39.50 crores in Tamil Nadu alone. The movie has also emerged as a success in Telugu states with over 10.75 crores gross collection.
