Mumbai, December 17 - Dharma Productions' Homebound gets closer to the prestigious Oscar after the hard-hitting drama film was shortlisted in the Best International Feature category for the Oscars 2026. The film will be competing with 14 other international titles. The film had its world premiere in the Un Certain Regard section of the 2025 Cannes Film Festival on 21 May 2025, and reportedly received a nine–minute standing ovation following the screening. It was released theatrically on 26 September 2025 to critical acclaim; however, it failed to create any magic at the box office. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Following its theatrical release, Homebound was made available to stream online after 8 weeks. The film was released on the OTT platform Netflix on November 21, 2025. Despite the critical acclaim, the movie failed to draw much viewership on OTT as well, with only 1.3 million views in the first week. The makers are hoping that the Oscars buzz might bring some attention to the film, which needs to be seen Directed by Neeraj Ghaywan and starring Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa and Janhvi Kapoor in leading roles, Homebound follow two childhood friends from a small village in North India who dream of becoming police officers, hoping the job will bring them the respect they never had. With A Mere 5+ Cr Collection: Karan Johar Shares Major Good News About Homebound

While the Oscar news has sent waves of joy through B town, the film's theatrical report card tells a very different story. Homebound had a very limited theatrical run, collecting a Net India total of just around 4.85 Cr or 5.60 crores gross with negligible returns. Homebound has been shortlisted for Best International Feature Film at the 98th Academy Awards. We’re deeply grateful for the extraordinary love and support we've received from around the world.🙏🏻 pic.twitter.com/MVIJMJAlvr— Dharma Productions (@DharmaMovies) December 16, 2025 For a Dharma film, these numbers might look shocking, but insiders suggest this was never a Box Office game. The theatrical release was primarily a technical requirement to qualify for the Academy Awards, rather than a bid for blockbusters numbers. While the production budget of the film is estimated to be between ₹ 25 to ₹ 60 Crore, the real money wasn't spent on making the film;it was spent on promoting it in Hollywood. Reports from The Indian Express and other sources suggest that a staggering ₹ 100 Crore+ was allocated specifically for the Oscar campaign. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The passion behind Homebound wasn't just limited to the producers. We hear that the cast and crew went above and beyond to keep the budget tight for production. Buzz is that Janhvi Kapoor, who plays the pivotal character Sudha, was so moved by the script that she reportedly took a pay cut to support the project. The rest of the crew also reportedly took cuts to ensure the resources went into the film's making and its subsequent global journey. So, did the producers lose money? Not really. Sources indicate that a massive chunk of the production budget was recovered through a lucrative exclusive deal with Netflix. The streaming giant is where the film has truly found its audience, proving that in 2025, a film's success isn't just measured by Friday collections, but by its legacy.

Is Jr. NTR's Devara 2 Shelved? Here Is The Latest Update

Hyderabad, November 27 - Superstar Jr NTR's much-anticipated Devara 2, which was once announced with immense fanfare, has reportedly hit a major roadblock amid the continuous delay. According to recent industry chatter and multiple media reports, the sequel to the hit film may have been shelved, leaving fans confused and seeking clarity from the makers. Over the last couple of months, there have been rumours that Jr. NTR is not convinced of the idea director Koratala Siva has been trying to shape in the script. What was initially pitched as a two-part epic now seems to be stuck in limbo, with no concrete movement on the production front. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The first film, directed by Koratala Siva, generated solid buzz before release, went on to become a box office hit with over 400 crores gross collection. Part 2 was confirmed with the first film, but according to the Telugu media reports, the makers have decided to shelve the sequel. Adding to the uncertainty, Jr NTR's packed schedule — which includes multiple high-profile commitments — is said to have made the sequel's development even more complicated. Reports also suggest that creative differences over the narrative of the second part contributed to the project being put on hold. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) For fans, the confusion lies in the contrast between earlier official promotions and new media rumours. On the film's first anniversary, the team confirmed Devara 2, generating excitement about the continuation of the story. However, recent updates indicate that the project may no longer be a priority, with insiders hinting that the sequel is unlikely to happen. At the moment, neither Jr NTR nor the producers have issued a formal statement about the fate of Devara 2. Until then, the film remains stuck between an official announcement and the growing assumption that the sequel has been quietly shelved. Fans continue to wait for clarity, hoping the makers address the speculation soon. Meanwhile, Jr. NTR will next be seen in director Prashanth Neel's period action drama Dragon, which is currently in production. The RRR star also has a film with Trivikram Srinivas, which will start by Neel's movie. Stay tuned...

Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari on Netflix: As Varun Dhawan’s film hits OTT on Nov 27, did it outperform his previous hit ‘Bhediya’ and Janhvi’s ‘Param Sundari’ with Rs 98 crore worldwide gross?

The Shashank Khaitan directorial is all set for its digital premiere this November 27.Here’s a detailed look at its theatrical report card and how it stacks up against the stars' recent hits. After a theatrical run filled with festive cheer and family drama, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari is ready to enter living rooms. The romantic comedy, starring Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor, will premiere on Netflix on November 27. Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari marks the highly anticipated third collaboration between Varun Dhawan and director Shashank Khaitan, following the massive successes of Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania and Badrinath Ki Dulhania, leading fans to dub it the "spiritual successor" to the celebrated franchise. Staying true to their signature style, the narrative revolves around Sunny (Varun) and Tulsi (Janhvi)—two contrasting personalities forced to navigate a "fake relationship" amidst the chaos of a big fat Indian wedding, resulting in a classic comedy of errors. However, the film's theatrical run wasn't without hurdles; trade analysts noted that the collections were slightly dented by the massive buzz surrounding the pan-India release Kantara: Chapter 1, which occupied a significant chunk of single screens during the same period. Below is the final breakdown of its theatrical run: India Net Collection: ₹ 61.85 Cr India Gross Collection: ₹ 73.85 Cr Overseas Collection: ₹ 24.50 Cr Worldwide Collection: ₹ 98.35 Cr With a worldwide gross of ₹ 98.35 Cr, the film narrowly missed the double-century mark (₹ 100 Cr). The Overseas collection of ₹ 24.5 Cr is a highlight, proving that the Dhawan-Khaitan trademark humor still holds strong appeal among international desi audiences. Varun Dhawan returns to his celebrated "Dulhania" roots with Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, cementing his status as the genre's reliable star. When analyzing his recent box office trajectory, the film lands in a familiar zone. It falls slightly short of his previous family entertainer, JugJugg Jeeyo, which collected approximately ₹85 Cr (India Net)—a gap likely attributed to the current saturation within the genre.Sunny Sanskari mirrors the performance of his creature-comedy Bhediya. With Bhediya having earned around ₹ 68.99 Cr India Nett .Interestingly, while Sunny Sanskari (₹ 61.85 Cr) trails slightly behind Bhediya in domestic earnings, it has outperformed Bhediya's Worldwide Collection of ₹ 94.91 Cr by grossing ₹ 98.35 Cr, largely thanks to a much stronger overseas performance (₹ 24.5 Cr vs Bhediya's ₹ 13.5 Cr). This places the new release in the same "Average" to "Semi-Hit" bracket as his earlier experimental ventures. Janhvi Kapoor continues her ascent as a commercial force following a remarkably busy year. Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari adds another significant title to her portfolio, showcasing a clear upward trend in her box office draw. Earlier this year, her romantic entertainer Param Sundari emerged as a surprise success, grossing close to ₹75 Cr worldwide. Sunny Sanskari has comfortably outperformed that benchmark with a global total of ₹98.35 Cr, effectively cementing her bankability in the romantic-comedy space. All in all, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari wraps up its theatrical journey as a respectable semi-hit. While it couldn't replicate the franchise highs of Badrinath Ki Dulhania, it successfully weathered the storm of Kantara: Chapter 1 to post healthy global numbers. With its vibrant aesthetic and light-hearted humor, the movie is tailor-made for home viewing. As it premieres on Netflix this November 27, it is expected to find a massive second wind, catering to the family audience that prefers enjoying rom-coms from the comfort of their living rooms.

Varun Dhawan, Janhvi Kapoor's Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari Day 1 Early Estimates: Opens On Expected Lines

Mumbai, October 2 - Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor's rom-com Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari has taken a decent start at the box office. The film began on a fair note in the morning shows and made steady progress throughout the day, getting the benefit of the holiday. However, due to the tough competition with Rishab Shetty's Kantara Chapter 1, the movie failed to make a big impact despite the big holiday, particularly on single screens where the Kannada action drama enjoyed dominance. According to early estimates, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari has collected in the range of 9–10 crore net on its opening day, which is broadly in line with trade expectations. The initial audience feedback is mixed, with appreciation performance and music, but divided opinions on the narrative and overall execution. With Saturday and Sunday still to come, the film's weekend trend will be crucial in determining whether it can consolidate its start and build momentum despite stiff competition. Stay tuned...

Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor's Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumar Box Office Preview/Opening Day Expectations

Mumbai, October 1 - Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor's romantic comedy drama Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari is gearing up for release this Dussehra, amid some expectations. Directed by Shashank Khaitan, the film has managed to catch the attention with songs and trailer, which is aimed at the family audience. It has been certified U/A by the CBFC and carries a runtime of 2 hours 15 minutes. Varun Dhawan and Shashank Khaitan are a proven combo, having delivered box office hits like Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania and Badrinath Ki Dulhania, and the expectations are no different this time either. However, unlike in the past, there are challenges for the film this time. While the trade is expecting this combo to hit the bull's eye, the ground buzz doesn't seem to be that strong. The advance booking of the film was opened a couple of days ago, but it hasn't found momentum with less than a day to go for the release. The pre-sales are proceeding at a slow pace, with the big momentum missing that usually accompanies a festive release. So far, the movie has accumulated approximately 1.40 crore in pre-sales and is heading for a finish around 2.50–3 crore gross for the opening day. This figure places the film below the advance sale of recent Bollywood releases like Jolly LLB 3 (3.23 crore gross) and Sitaare Zameen Par (3.30 crore gross), both of which managed to open in double digits on Day 1. Given the current trend, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari might struggle to reach that mark and is instead looking at an opening in the 8–10 crore net range domestically. The film does, however, benefit from the Dussehra holiday, which could give a crucial boost to its spot bookings, especially in urban multiplexes. The challenge lies in single screens, where Kantara: Chapter 1 is enjoying stronger buzz and demand, making the competition tougher for Varun and Janhvi’s outing. Directed by Shashank Khaitan and backed by Dharma Productions, the film also stars Sanya Malhotra and Rohit Saraf in supporting roles. With positive word of mouth and the holiday advantage, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari still has a chance to build momentum post its release, but its opening day numbers are likely to stay modest compared to recent big festive Bollywood launches. Kantara Chapter 1 Makers Spark Dispute In Hindi Belt With Unreasonable Showcasing Demands Against Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari

Mumbai, September 26 - The Dussehra 2025 box office clash between South biggie Kantara Chapter 1 and the much-awaited Bollywood romantic comedy Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari seems to be taking an ugly turn after the makers demand exclusive excessive showcasing for the Kantara prequel. With less than a week to go before the release, the makers of both films are leaving no stone unturned to make their films reach the maximum audience, and in between, a dispute over showcasing has started making headlines. According to the report by Bollywood Hungama, AA Films, the distributors of Kanatar 2, have sent an email to the exhibitors regarding their requirement for the shows. It is said that "they have demanded that all shows in single-screen and 12 shows in two-screen cinemas. The latter also amounts to all shows; they mention the same clearly in the mail to avoid any confusion. Shockingly, they have also asked for 18 shows in three-screen multiplexes, which, in other words, also amounts to every show." The Kantara makers are very well aware that Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor's Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumar is releasing on the same day, yet they have asked for such a showcase in the Hindi belt, which is not just unreasonable, but also laughable. An exhibitor, on condition of anonymity, told Bollywood Hungama, "I don't agree with this unreasonable demand. We understand that Kantara is a highly anticipated film. But then, even Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari also looks like a fun entertainer, which will attract family audiences and youth. Hence, I'd like to play that film as well." The report further states that AA Films has demanded 100% shows in IMAX properties, along with a higher percentage of shows in theatres with 4-screens and beyond. It needs to be seen how things turn out, but at the moment, it doesn't look like the game is fair. Stay tuned...
