Kochi, May 25 - The Malayalam film industry is reaching new heights in 2024 and for the very first time in its history, Malayalam movies have topped 1000 crores gross collection at the worldwide box office in a single year. ## The total worldwide collection of 2024 Malayalam movies is approximately 1030 crores gross, including 660 crores gross in India and 370 crores overseas, as of May 24. Domestically, Mollywood has contributed approximately 20% of the total collection this year, behind Hindi (40%) and Telugu (23%). ## The real-life inspired survival thriller Manjummel Boys has been the highest-grossing Malayalam film of 2024 with a worldwide collection of 241 crores, including 167.50 crores gross in India and 73.50 crores overseas. It is also the highest-grossing Mollywood title of all time. ## Among the other major contributors, Prithviraj Sukumaran's Aadujeevitham: The Goat Life and Fahadh Faasil-fronted Aavesham at the second and third position with 157.50 crores gross and 153.50 crores gross worldwide, respectively. Kochi, April 19 - Malayalam cinema's biggest ever romantic-comedy blockbuster Premalu will get a sequel for 2025 release, the makers officially announced during the success meet on April 19. ## Girish AD, who wrote and directed the original, will be returning to helm the sequel along with the lead pair of Naslen and Mamitha Baiju. The movie achieved the milestone in its 5th week. ## Directed by Girish A. D., Premalu has been a kind of revolution at the box office. Made on a budget of around 10 crores, the movie faced competition from bigger films and despite that, it has been showing incredible legs at the box office. ## In India, Premalu has minted approximately 62+ crores gross while the overseas collection is an estimated 38 crores, for 100+ crores worldwide total after 33 days of its run. The movie was recently released in the Telugu dubbed version and has grossed over 2.50 crores in 5 days so far. ## It is the 5th Malayalam movie of all time to enter the 100 crores gross club.
