Kochi, July 1 - A couple of weeks after actor Unni Mukundan announced that he had dropped plans for a sequel to the action thriller Marco, the makers have now confirmed that the franchise will go on (with or without him). ## Cubes Entertainments, the production house behind Marco, clarified that they hold the complete rights to the franchise and intend to move forward, despite the actor's withdrawal. The clarification came in response to a fan comment urging the studio to either proceed with Marco 2 or transfer the rights to another banner. ## "Thank you for the overwhelming love and support for Marco. Discussions regarding the Marco series are still not over yet. Cubes Entertainment exclusively owns all rights to Marco, and we firmly believe the journey of Marco holds immense potential. Please note: We are not open to transferring or sharing the rights of this franchise,” the studio stated, as per a report by Onmanorama.com. ## Meanwhile, reports suggest that Marco 2 may be in development with a Bollywood actor stepping into the lead role, although no official confirmation has been made. Kochi, March 5 - Malayalam star Unni Mukundan's box office blockbuster Marco has reportedly been halted for the television premiere and is also likely to be stopped from OTT release due to the violent content. The movie is directed by Haneef Adeni. ## Touted as the most violent film, Marco was censored with an A rating (18+) for the big screen release by The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) but the body has denied the permission to screen the movie on television. CBFC has also reportedly asked the government to ban the movie from streaming on OTT platforms.## It is to be noted that to premiere the film on television, it has to obtain a U/A or U certificate from the board. In the case of Marco, the central board accepted the recommendation of the regional examination committee and based on that, it was found that the movie contained too much violence to be changed to a U/A or U-category film. ## If the makers want, they can re-submit for permission by cutting more scenes but they are unlikely to do so as it will make the film irrelevant. It is probably the first movie in recent times to get banned from TV premiere and the decision is not surprising given the scrutiny CBFC has been under recently.## Marco, despite its huge box office success with a 100+ crore gross collection, has faced criticism for showing too much violence, and so has the CBFC for allowing its release in theatres. Kochi, January 12 - Unni Mukundan's action thriller Marco is in the last leg of its box office run but running out of time, it has done what no other A-rated Malayalam film did in the past as it has become the first adult-rated Mollywood title to to 100 crores at the worldwide box office. ## Touted as India's most violent film, Marco was released on December 20, ahead of the Christmas weekend in 2024. It opened to rave reviews from critics and audiences alike which led to a rampage at the box office and ended the year, what was remarkable Mollywood on the whole, on high. ## On its 24th day (4th Sunday), the Haneef Adeni-directed blockbuster stormed past the 100 crores mark at the worldwide box office. Kochi, December 29 - Malayalam cinema strikes again as A-rated action thriller Marco, touted as the most violent film in Indian cinema, has emerged as a big success and is heading towards 100 crores gross mark at the worldwide box office. ## Through the second Saturday (9th day), the film grossed approximately 63 crores, including 37.50 crores domestically and around 25+ crores at the overseas box office. Bengaluru, December 20 - Amid Pushpa 2 - The Rule's rampage at the box office, the new pre-Christmas 2024 weekend Indian releases are off to a good start. Director Vetrimaaran's Viduthalai Part - 2, Upendra's UI, and Malayalam title Marco among others hit the screens on December 20. ## Viduthalai Part 2 was the biggest opener among the new Indian titles and it has opened almost double the first movie. According to the early estimates, the crime thriller grossed an estimated 8 crores, including around 6.50 crores in Tamil Nadu on its opening day.## Kannada star and director Upendra's dystopian science fictional action UI has exceeded expectations and taken the biggest opening of 2024 for a Kannada title. Per estimates, the film has grossed in the range of 7.50-8 crores, which includes around 80 lakh in the Telugu version, on its first day.## The Malayalam A-rated action thriller, Marco starring Unni Mukundan, is another film of the day which performed well above expectations. Touted as the most violent Mollywood title ever, the movie scored an estimated 5 crores gross on its first day. ## The word of mouth for all three aforementioned films is superb which should lead them to a very good holiday week. Meanwhile, there was one more big Hollywood film released in the form of Disney's Mufasa - The Lion King, in the voices dubbed by superstars like Shah Rukh Khan (Hindi) and Mahesh Babu (Telugu). ## The animated adventure film performed very well on its first day in India, scoring an estimated 9-10 crores net collection in all versions.
