From Animal to Dhurandhar: Sandeep Reddy Vanga Reviews the 214 Minute Spy Epic; Calls it Dominant and Fierce

In a significant nod from one powerhouse filmmaker to another, Sandeep Reddy Vanga, the director behind the global blockbusters Animal and Kabir Singh, has showered high praise on Aditya Dhar's latest spy-action thriller, Dhurandhar. Known for his unapologetic style of filmmaking and masculine storytelling, Vanga took to social media to share his thoughts on the film, which has been making waves for its gritty realism and high-octane action. In a tweet that has since gone viral, Sandeep Reddy Vanga described Dhurandhar as a film that carries a masculine spine and moves with dominance and fierce. Vanga, whose own film Animal redefined the landscape of A-rated Indian cinema, lauded the film's clarity and lack of chaos, stating: DHURANDHAR is built like a man who doesn't talk much & carries a masculine spine.... The title fits because the film moves with dominance and fierce. The depiction is very clear with zero chaos. Music, performances, screenplay & direction are on the top. He specifically highlighted the performances of the leads, noting that Akshaye Khanna and Ranveer Singh erased into air and just disappeared into characters effortlessly. He concluded by thanking director Aditya Dhar for allowing audiences to experience the true weight of untold sacrifices. When the first trailers for Dhurandhar dropped, cinephiles quickly drew parallels between the two. Epic Runtimes: Much like Animal's 3-hour-21-minute odyssey, Dhurandhar boasts a massive runtime of 214 minutes (3 hours and 34 minutes). The A Factor: Both films received an Adult (A) certificate from the CBFC for their raw violence and intense themes. Hyper-Masculinity: While Animal focused on a volatile father-son dynamic, Dhurandhar applies a similar hyper-masculine lens to the world of international espionage and RAW operations. Dhurandhar has officially cemented its status as a Box Office Monster. After completing its first 14 days in theaters, the film has shown incredible holding power, particularly in the mass circuits. As of the end of its second week, the film's domestic performance is record-breaking, with an India Net Collection of ₹460.5 Cr and an India Gross Collection of ₹552.5 Cr. Its dominance isn't limited to the home turf; the film has raked in ₹158 Cr from Overseas markets, bringing its total Worldwide Collection to a staggering ₹710.5 Cr. While Dhurandhar initially trailed slightly behind Animal's historic opening weekend, its masculine spine and strong word-of-mouth have given it extraordinary legs. Heading into its third week, the momentum remains red-hot. Early estimates for Day 15 (2nd Friday) suggest a collection of ₹22.50 Cr, indicating that the film is poised for a massive third weekend that could see it challenging Animal's lifetime worldwide gross of ₹915 Cr.

Top 5 A-Rated Indian Films At Worldwide Box Office: Ranveer Singh's Dhurandhar Tops The Chart

Mumbai, December 25 - Indian cinema has seen big results at the box office over the last few years, with many films crossing the 500 crores milestone. It used to be a rarity before the COVID pandemic, but with audiences craving for big-ticket entertainers with solid theatrical appeal, the milestone is no longer out of reach. While crossing the half-billion mark might not be a big ask anymore, films with A-ratings have always walked a tightrope at the box office. With restricted audiences, limited family footfalls, and often polarising themes, breaking records in the adult-certified space is no easy feat. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Yet, every once in a while, a film comes along that defies the odds, rewriting the rules of what an A-rated Indian film can achieve commercially. Well, this has happened a few times over the last couple of years, where multiple A-rated titles achieved big success at the box office, proving that audiences are ready to embrace such films if they are worthy of their time and money. Dhurandhar Completes December's Blockbuster Hat-Trick, Cementing First Week as Bollywood's New Power Window

The first week of December has firmly established itself as a new power-play window for Bollywood, proving to be a certified moneyspinner for three consecutive years. This period has successfully delivered a hat-trick of major box office triumphs, beginning with 2023's Animal, followed by 2024's Pushpa 2: The Rule, and cemented by 2025's ongoing sensation, Dhurandhar. The trend showcases how this pre-holiday slot has become a lucrative period for big-ticket releases, consistently drawing massive audiences and generating exceptional footfalls for exhibitors. The trend began in 2023 when Sandeep Reddy Vanga's audacious and polarizing drama, Animal, starring Ranbir Kapoor, took the box office by storm. Despite its controversial themes, the film's raw storytelling and powerful performances resonated with audiences, leading to a colossal worldwide gross of ₹915 crore. It was a testament to the fact that bold content could create a cinematic event. The momentum surged to new heights in 2024 with the arrival of the pan-Indian juggernaut, Pushpa 2: The Rule. Directed by Sukumar and led by Allu Arjun, the sequel built on the unprecedented hype of its predecessor to shatter records. Becoming a true cultural phenomenon, the film grossed an estimated ₹1,742.1 crore worldwide, with its Hindi version alone netting a staggering ₹812.14 crore. This monumental success underscored the power of a well-executed franchise and its ability to transcend linguistic and cultural barriers, further solidifying the December slot's blockbuster potential. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Completing this impressive hat-trick is 2025's star-studded spy thriller, Dhurandhar. Helmed by Aditya Dhar and featuring an ensemble cast including Ranveer Singh and Akshaye Khanna, the film has taken the box office by storm. It has demonstrated a monstrous hold on weekdays, crossing the ₹200 crore mark worldwide in just its first five days. The film's success, driven by a gripping narrative and stellar performances, proves that even a standalone, content-focused film can dominate this newly established power window. Ultimately, while a strategic release date offers a significant advantage by attracting initial attention, the sustained success of these three varied films reinforces a time-tested truth. A favourable release period may set the stage, but it is the solid storytelling, strong performances, and impactful execution of films like Animal, Pushpa 2, and Dhurandhar that truly sustain momentum and conquer the box office.

Ranveer Singh's Dhurandhar vs Ranbir Kapoor's Animal: The Opening Weekend Box Office Showdown

From the bloody battlegrounds of Animal to the gritty spy world of Dhurandhar, Bollywood is witnessing a clash of titans. The box office has turned into a battlefield, and we are absolutely living for it! With Ranveer Singh's latest spy-thriller Dhurandhar hitting the screens, comparisons with Ranbir Kapoor's 2023 monster hit Animal were inevitable. Both films are A-rated, violent, have lengthy runtimes crossing the 3.5-hour mark, and feature our favorite superstars in their most intense avatars yet. But who won the numbers game, and what is the secret sequel news that has left the industry shook? Let's dive into the verified figures. Let's talk straight facts regarding the box office performance. While Ranveer Singh has roared back to form, Ranbir Kapoor's Animal still holds the crown for the biggest Adults Only opening weekend. The Sandeep Reddy Vanga directorial was a tsunami at the box office back in 2023, raking in a massive Rs 201.53 Crore (India Net) in its opening weekend. It set a benchmark for A-rated cinema that is proving hard to beat. On the other hand, Aditya Dhar's spy-universe saga has posted a solid total of Rs 103 Crore (India Net) in its first 3 days. While Dhurandhar has crossed the coveted Rs 100 Cr mark in record time for Ranveer, it trails behind the beastly performance of Animal by roughly 50%. However, trade experts are noting that for a spy-thriller genre without the mass masala hype of Animal, these numbers are still fantastic. For those who don't know, Animal didn't just start big; it finished as a box office juggernaut. The film went on to collect a staggering India Net Collection of Rs 553.87 Cr, with the India Gross Collection standing at Rs 660 Cr. The craze wasn't just limited to India; the movie raked in Rs 255 Cr from overseas markets, pushing its total Worldwide Collection to a colossal Rs 915 Cr. These are the mammoth benchmarks that Dhurandhar will be aiming to chase in the long run. It is worth noting that while Animal rode on Ranbir Kapoor's solo alpha energy, Dhurandhar brings a massive ensemble to the table. Directed by Aditya Dhar, the film stars heavyweights like Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, Akshaye Khanna, and Arjun Rampal, making it a collective powerhouse of acting. Despite the difference in opening numbers, both films share a similar DNA of testing the audience's endurance with raw, unfiltered violence and long storytelling formats. As widely speculated before the release, the film's end-credits officially confirmed that the story is far from over. Validating the pre-release buzz about a two-part saga, the makers announced that the sequel, titled Dhurandhar 2: Revenge, is all set to release on March 19, 2026. This confirms that director Aditya Dhar shot both installments back-to-back, allowing for an exceptionally short waiting period between chapters. With the sequel arriving just four months after the first part, it is clear that this spy universe was designed as a rapid-fire franchise from day one. We are undoubtedly in a golden era of action cinema where superstars are pushing boundaries like never before. While Ranbir Kapoor redefined the crime-drama genre with his raw intensity, Ranveer Singh is now carving his own niche with a calculated, high-stakes spy universe. With a confirmed sequel around the corner for the latter and a massive universe building up for the former, the stage is set for a long-term battle for supremacy.

Top Bollywood Films Post-Pandemic Footfalls Ranking: Shah Rukh Khan's Jawan Leads As Six Movies Top 3 Crore Admits

Mumbai, September 14 – The post-pandemic era has been a rollercoaster for Bollywood, with the industry witnessing both unprecedented highs and major setbacks. The box office dynamics in this age and era have changed drastically, where the brand value doesn't guarantee success. However, in the post-pandemic world, Bollywood has reached new highs, not just once, but on many occasions, with record collections, and those films have managed to pull massive footfalls, reaffirming the enduring charm of the big screen. According to the estimates, six Bollywood blockbusters have managed to breach the coveted 3 crore footfalls mark since cinemas reopened in late 2021, proving that audiences are still willing to flock to theatres when offered the right blend of entertainment, star power, and emotion. Topping the list is Shah Rukh Khan's action phenomenon Jawan, which stands tall with 3.80 crore admissions, making it the most-watched Bollywood film of the post-pandemic period. The film's pan-India appeal, coupled with Atlee's mass entertainer packaging, made it a cultural event across the country. Not far behind is SRK's comeback film Pathaan, which kick-started the revival wave for Hindi cinema in early 2023. Sunny Deol's Gadar 2, fueled by nostalgia and patriotic fervour, follows closely with over 3.40 crore admissions, proving that emotional connect remains as powerful as ever. Ranbir Kapoor's intense action drama Animal registered over 3 crore admissions, marking it as a remarkable run for an A-rated film in India. Shraddha Kapoor's horror-comedy Stree 2 and Vicky Kaushal's Chhaava were among the biggest surprises in recent times as they managed to top 3 crore admissions each in India. Spirit Runtime Update: Prabhas' Actioner Will Be Shorter Than Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Arjun Reddy and Animal

Hyderabad, September 6 – Director Sandeep Reddy Vanga, who is known for his intense, emotionally charged dramas like blockbusters Arjun Reddy, Kabir Singh, and Animal, has revealed the potential theatrical runtime of his highly-awaited film Spirit starring pan-India superstar Prabhas. In a recent interaction, Vanga hinted that Spirit could be his shortest film to date in terms of runtime. During a talk show called Jayammu Nischayammu Raa on Zee5, SRV was asked about what the theatrical runtime of Spirit would be by host Jagapathi Babu. The blockbuster director, who is teaming up with Prabhas for the first time, revealed that he would make sure that the runtime remains below 3 hours. If this happens, it will probably be his shortest film, even shorter than Shahid Kapoor-fronted Kabir Singh. This is a surprising revelation considering the director's past works, which are known for their extended screen time, layered storytelling, and detailed character arcs. Kabir Singh (2019) was 172 minutes (2 hours and 52 minutes) long, while Vanga's other two movies, Arjun Reddy and Animal, clocked over 3 hours of runtime. Apart from runtime, SRV also revealed that for Spirit, 70% of the music is already done, as he feels that it is easier to shoot a film when the BGM is playing in the background, as we can easily tell when to cut. "During Kabir Singh, I realised that if the RR is done before the shoot begins, then it makes shooting much easier. I didn’t have those privileges during Arjun Reddy, but for Animal, 80% of the RR was done before the shoot itself," he said. The film marks Vanga's first collaboration with Prabhas, who will be seen playing a powerful cop in this high-voltage action drama. Given Prabhas' massive fan base and Vanga's reputation for hard-hitting, controversial storytelling, expectations are sky-high for Spirit, which is being mounted on a massive scale. Produced by Bhushan Kumar's T-Series and Vanga's Bhadrakali Pictures, Spirit is one of the most anticipated Indian films, promising a blend of action, emotion, and Vanga's signature intensity. With the director now hinting at a sharper runtime, fans are curious to see how this change in storytelling style translates on the big screen. The film, which has Tripti Dimri as the female lead as she reunites with Vanga after Animal, is currently in the pre-production stage and is expected to go on floors soon. It is expected to be released by late 2026 in multiple Indian and international languages. Stay tuned...
