OFFICIAL: Thalapathy Vijay's Jana Nayagan Postponed; Over ₹100 Crore in Advance Bookings Wiped Out? Big Advantage for Prabhas's The Raja Saab

In a move that has sent shockwaves through the global film industry, KVN Productions has officially announced the postponement of Thalapathy Vijay's final cinematic outing, Jana Nayagan. Originally scheduled for a grand worldwide release on January 9, the film has been pushed forward due to unavoidable circumstances beyond control. The production house expressed a heavy heart, stating that the decision was not an easy one given the immense anticipation surrounding what is meant to be the swan song of Vijay's legendary career. pic.twitter.com/dRCsoOrnDp— KVN Productions (@KvnProductions) January 7, 2026 The financial implications of this eleventh-hour delay are staggering. According to trade reports , nearly ₹40 crore in overseas opening day advance bookings and close to ₹60 crore for the opening weekend have been wiped out instantly. This combined ₹100 crore loss in global pre-sales represents a massive blow to overseas exhibitors and distributors who had locked in prime shows and a record-breaking wide rollout. Domestically, the impact is equally painful, with Karnataka Talkies reporting that theatres have been informed to refund tickets worth nearly ₹6 crore in Karnataka alone. This level of hard-earned demand is rare in Indian cinema, and industry analysts are calling it a costly miss for KVN Productions that may be difficult to replicate when a new date is finally announced. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({})   The postponement of Jana Nayagan has created a sudden vacuum at the box office, resulting in a big advantage for Prabhas's The Raja Saab. With the departure of the Tamil titan from the January 9th slot, The Raja Saab is now set to secure a significantly higher screen count across all territories. In a major strategic shift, the Tamil version of The Raja Saab, which was initially scheduled for release on January 10th, can now be advanced to January 9th to capitalize on the open holiday window. This reshuffling of the box office deck ensures that Prabhas's horror-comedy and other releases like Parasakthi will now secure better prime-time showtimes and expanded screen space in key markets that were previously dominated by Vijay's film. Despite the commercial shifts, the postponement has seen a rare display of fan solidarity. Prabhas fans (@HailPrabhas007) have voiced their support for Thalapathy Vijay's followers, noting that a postponement just a day or two before release is a painful experience, especially for a career-ending film with lakhs of tickets already sold. While exhibitors go back to square one to replan their schedules, the trade remains hopeful that when Jana Nayagan finally hits the big screen, it will return with the same ferocity to break all-time records. Until then, all eyes are on the Rebel Star as The Raja Saab prepares to dominate the now-vacant Sankranti/Pongal frame. The official release date for Jana Nayagan is currently being reassessed following the postponement announcement. A major factor influencing the new schedule is the upcoming 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections. Since the film marks the final project of a lead actor entering the political arena, the timing is critical. A mid-April release, which would normally be a preferred holiday slot, is considered logistically unfeasible as it coincides with the peak of the electoral cycle.Alternatively, some trade analysts are discussing a potential Republic Day (January 26th) slot if the unavoidable circumstances are resolved quickly, though this would mean a direct clash with Sunny Deol's Border 2. As of now, while these windows are being heavily debated the official confirmation remains pending from the production house.

Border 2 Runtime Update: Sunny Deol Starrer Joins Animal and Pushpa 2 in the Elite 3-Hour Club

New details regarding the theatrical presentation of the upcoming war sequel Border 2 have emerged. According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, the film is expected to have a runtime of approximately 200 minutes (3 hours and 20 minutes). This duration officially places the production in the 3-hour plus club, a trend increasingly seen in high-budget Indian cinema. The extensive length is reportedly necessary to accommodate a multi-perspective narrative that covers the operations of the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force during the 1971 Indo-Pak War. For years, a three-hour runtime was considered a significant box office risk, but recent trends have completely shattered this long-standing myth.Border 2 is now following in the footsteps of a string of All-Time Blockbusters that dared to be lengthy and were rewarded with historic collections. Animal (2023) led the charge with a runtime of 3 hours and 21 minutes, where Ranbir Kapoor's gritty drama defied industry norms to gross over ₹915 crore worldwide. This was followed by the massive success of Pushpa 2: The Rule (2024); Allu Arjun's sequel clocked in at 3 hours and 20 minutes—with a reloaded version extending even further—and went on a record-breaking spree to amass an estimated ₹1,742 crore globally. Most recently, the spy thriller Dhurandhar (2025) entered the club with an expansive runtime of 3 hours and 34 minutes, becoming a monumental hit by crossing the ₹1,200 crore mark worldwide. These films have collectively proven that when the content is engaging and immersive, audiences are more than willing to invest their time, effectively turning long runtimes into a hallmark of grand, must-watch cinematic events. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({})   Directed by Anurag Singh (of Kesari fame) and produced by the legendary J.P. Dutta, Nidhi Dutta, and Bhushan Kumar (T-Series), Border 2 is being mounted as India's biggest war spectacle. The film boasts a massive ensemble cast led by Sunny Deol, reprising his iconic persona, alongside Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty. The supporting cast includes Mona Singh, Sonam Bajwa, Medha Rana, and Anya Singh, ensuring a diverse and emotional narrative. The film is not a direct remake but a spiritual successor that focuses on the untold bravery of the 1971 war. The makers have reportedly ensured that the 200-minute runtime is packed with massy patriotic moments, high-octane action, and emotional depth, similar to the 1997 classic. A major highlight is the recreated soundtrack, including the recently released Ghar Kab Aaoge, a tribute to the original's legendary Sandese Aate Hain. Border 2 is scheduled for a grand theatrical release on January 23, 2026, perfectly timed to capitalize on the Republic Day long weekend. Interestingly, January 2026 is shaping up to be a month of epic runtimes; besides Border 2, Prabhas's The Raja Saab (3h 9m) and Thalapathy Vijay's Jana Nayagan (3h 3m) are also set to dominate the big screen with their lengthy durations. As the final edit of Border 2 heads for censorship, the industry expects it to secure a U/A certificate, paving the way for a massive family audience turnout this Republic Day.

Box Office 2026:SRK, Deepika Padukone, Kareena Kapoor and more ;Here's the massive lineup of 5 Bollywood Titans who gave 2025 a miss

If 2025 felt a little quieter at the box office, it wasn’t just you. The year saw a rare phenomenon where the biggest pillars of Bollywood—Shah Rukh Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Deepika Padukone, and Kareena Kapoor Khan—all took a collective step back from the silver screen. But make no mistake: this wasn't a hiatus; it was a strategy. While the theaters missed their magic this year, these superstars were busy mounting some of the most ambitious projects Indian cinema has ever seen. Here is the verified report on how these 5 A-listers are gearing up to reclaim the throne in 2026. 1. Shah Rukh Khan Movie: King (2026 Release) Director: Siddharth Anand Cast: Shah Rukh Khan, Suhana Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Deepika Padukone. After shattering every record in the book with his 2023 hat-trick (Pathaan, Jawan, Dunki) which generated a cumulative gross of over ₹2,500 Crores, King Khan decided to take a well-deserved pause in 2025. He returns to the action-thriller genre in 2026 with King. This film is monumental as it marks the big-screen theatrical debut of his daughter, Suhana Khan, with Abhishek Bachchan reportedly playing the stylish antagonist. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) 2. Ranbir Kapoor Movie 1: Ramayana: Part 1 (Diwali 2026) Director: Nitesh Tiwari Cast: Sai Pallavi, Yash, Sunny Deol. Movie 2: Love & War (Christmas 2026) Director: Sanjay Leela Bhansali Cast: Alia Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal. Following the polarizing yet colossal blockbuster success of Animal (₹917.82 Cr Worldwide), Ranbir Kapoor vanished from the big screen in 2025 to prep for a historic double whammy. He steps into the divine shoes of Lord Ram for the Diwali 2026 release of Ramayana, and later reunites with his mentor Sanjay Leela Bhansali for the epic saga Love and War, marking his return to intense drama. 3. Alia Bhatt Movie 1: Alpha (2026) Director: Shiv Rawail Cast: Sharvari Wagh, Bobby Deol. Movie 2: Love & War (Christmas 2026) Director: Sanjay Leela Bhansali Cast: Ranbir Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal. The powerhouse performer, who ruled the box office with Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani and Gangubai Kathiawadi , took 2025 off to physically transform for her biggest action role yet. She headlines Alpha, the YRF Spy Universe's first female-led solo film, and will also feature in a lead role in the love triangle Love and War alongside her husband Ranbir Kapoor. 4. Deepika Padukone Movie: King Role: Pivotal / Extended Appearance Cast: Shah Rukh Khan, Suhana Khan, Abhishek Bachchan. 2025 was a personal milestone for Deepika as she embraced motherhood, but she has silently locked her return. She officially rejoins her lucky charm Shah Rukh Khan for King. This marks their 6th collaboration after massive blockbusters like Pathaan and Jawan. Her last release, Kalki 2898 AD, entered the exclusive ₹1,000 Crore Club, keeping her box office dominance intact. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) 5. Kareena Kapoor Khan Movie: Daayra Director: Meghna Gulzar (Raazi fame) Cast: Prithviraj Sukumaran. Bebo continues to reinvent herself. After receiving critical acclaim for The Buckingham Murders, she skipped a theatrical release in 2025 to focus on a gritty, content-driven thriller. Produced by Junglee Pictures, Daayra pairs her with Malayalam superstar Prithviraj Sukumaran, promising a raw and intense performance similar to the director's previous hit, Raazi.

Dhurandhar to Sholay:9 Films Where Villains Overshadowed the Film's protagonist

The hero fights, the hero wins, and the hero takes the glory. But every once in a while, an actor flips the script—not on paper, but in the hearts of the audience. The internet is currently in a meltdown over Dhurandhar, where history seems to be repeating itself in the most spectacular fashion. While Ranveer Singh brings his trademark energy to the screen, it is Akshaye Khanna who has walked away with the film's soul. Critics and audiences alike are calling Khanna's performance dark, electric, and terrifying, noting how his calculated madness has completely overshadowed the protagonist. It is a rare feat to outshine a powerhouse like Ranveer, but Akshaye's sinister portrayal is being hailed as a career-best, reminding us of the golden rule: sometimes, it's just more fun to be bad. 1. Dhurandhar (2025) Hero: Ranveer Singh | Villain: Akshaye Khanna In what critics are calling a career-defining turn, Akshaye Khanna has flipped the script completely. His dark, electric, and terrifying portrayal has generated massive online buzz, overshadowing Ranveer Singh's high-energy performance. Khanna's stillness, cold stare, and methodical dialogue delivery reportedly caused pin-drop silence in theatres. Many reviewers noted that every frame featuring him carried an unpredictable tension, making his character the film's psychological core. Status: Trending Blockbuster (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) 2. Sholay (1975) Heroes: Amitabh Bachchan & Dharmendra | Villain: Amjad Khan (Gabbar Singh) Gabbar Singh remains the ultimate benchmark. Despite the star power of Jai and Veeru, Amjad Khan's maniacal laugh and olive greens became the face of the film. His dialogue, Kitne aadmi the?, is arguably more famous than the film itself. Gabbar's unpredictable cruelty made him terrifying even in scenes with minimal movement—an approach that influenced how Bollywood wrote villains for decades. Film historians widely consider Gabbar one of the greatest antagonists in Indian cinema. Box Office: ₹15 Crore (India Net) All-Time Blockbuster 3. Darr (1993) Hero: Sunny Deol | Villain: Shah Rukh Khan (Rahul Mehra) The movie that proved the audience loves a complex villain. SRK's stuttering K-K-K-Kiran garnered immense sympathy, leaving the muscular hero Sunny Deol feeling sidelined in the final edit. SRK's obsessive intensity, silent breakdowns, and unpredictable outbursts added layers rarely explored at the time. His performance not only overshadowed the hero but also marked the beginning of his rise as one of Bollywood's biggest stars, despite playing a negative role. Box Office: ₹10.91 Crore (India Net) Blockbuster 4. Padmaavat (2018) Hero: Shahid Kapoor | Villain: Ranveer Singh (Alauddin Khilji) Before he was overshadowed in Dhurandhar, Ranveer did the overshadowing here. His animalistic, unhinged energy as Khilji devoured the screen, making the noble silence of Shahid Kapoor's character fade into the background. Ranveer's physical transformation, bloodshot eyes, and predatory body language became the cultural talking point of 2018. Many critics argued that Khilji—not the titular queen—was the emotional high point of the narrative. Box Office: ₹302.15 Crore (India Net) Blockbuster (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) 5. Mr. India (1987) Hero: Anil Kapoor | Villain: Amrish Puri (Mogambo) Anil Kapoor had the invisibility watch, but Amrish Puri had the screen presence. With his blonde wig and the iconic line Mogambo Khush Hua, the villain became a cultural phenomenon. Mogambo's eccentric lair, loyal army, and operatic style made him more memorable than even the film's special-effects-driven hero. Puri's booming voice and theatrical delivery created a villain children feared yet imitated with delight. Box Office: ₹5.40 Crore (India Net) Super Hit 6. Gupt: The Hidden Truth (1997) Hero: Bobby Deol | Villain: Kajol (Isha Diwan) The twist that shook the nation. Kajol played the sweet lover for two hours, only to reveal herself as a psychopath in the climax. Her range stunned audiences and stole the spotlight from Bobby Deol, earning her a historic Best Villain award. Kajol's transformation from gentle to murderous was so seamless that reviewers called it one of her finest performances. The film is still remembered primarily for her shocking reveal. Box Office: ₹18.11 Crore (India Net) Hit 7. Sangharsh (1999) Hero: Akshay Kumar | Villain: Ashutosh Rana (Lajja Shankar Pandey) While the film was an average grosser, the performance is legendary. Ashutosh Rana's portrayal of a religious fanatic was so terrifying—especially the scene where he screams with his eyes—that it completely eclipsed the lead pair. His unsettling calmness followed by violent rage left a lasting psychological impact. Over time, Rana's role has achieved cult status and is considered one of Bollywood's scariest performances ever. Box Office: ₹5.97 Crore (India Net) Average (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) 8. Ek Villain (2014) Hero: Sidharth Malhotra | Villain: Riteish Deshmukh (Rakesh Mahadkar) Riteish Deshmukh, known for comedy, shocked everyone by playing a frustrated serial killer. His ordinary, middle-class demeanor made his crimes even more chilling, grabbing more attention than the brooding hero. Critics praised how Riteish used silence, guilt, and suppressed anger to create a villain who felt disturbingly real. His portrayal became the main reason for the film's massive word-of-mouth success. Box Office: ₹105.76 Crore (India Net) Super Hit 9. Shaan (1980) Heroes: Amitabh Bachchan & Shashi Kapoor | Villain: Kulbhushan Kharbanda (Shakaal) With a shark tank and a subterranean island, Shakaal was the coolest thing about this movie. Modeled after Bond villains, his sophisticated evil overshadowed the antics of the two lead superstars. Shakaal's bald look, calm voice, and eerie composure became his signature traits. To this day, he is remembered as one of Bollywood's most stylish antagonists, making the hero duo feel surprisingly ordinary. Box Office: ₹4.25 Crore (India Net) Average/ Hit

Akshaye Khanna's Massive Line-up After Dhurandhar: From Drishyam 3 to a Reported Series with Sunny Deol; Check Out the List

The internet has found its new favourite superstar in Akshaye Khanna. Following the thunderous success of his villainous act in Dhurandhar, the actor is reportedly flooded with offers. Here is a look at his potential upcoming movies and shows. Akshaye Khanna is currently enjoying a career-defining phase. His portrayal of Sher-E-Baloch in Aditya Dhar's spy-thriller has not only won critical acclaim but has also revitalized his demand in the industry. While fans are still raving about his performance, industry insiders suggest that the actor is gearing up for a busy slate ahead. From confirmed sequels to high-profile discussions, Akshaye is all set to dominate the screens in the coming years. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) The most obvious addition to his list is Dhurandhar 2. With the makers officially announcing the sequel for a March 2026 release, it is widely expected that Akshaye will return to reprise his role. Given the massive fan demand and the open-ended nature of his character arc in the first part, the sequel will likely revolve heavily around his return. Reports suggest that his character will be even more menacing in the second chapter titled Revenge. Another major project that has everyone excited is Drishyam 3. The franchise is one of the most successful thrillers in Indian cinema, and Akshaye's entry as the sharp-witted IG in the second part was a game-changer. Buzz indicates that the script for the final chapter is in advanced stages. Akshaye's character is expected to play a crucial role in the conclusion as he makes one final attempt to outsmart Vijay Salgaonkar. This face-off is something the audience is eagerly waiting to witness. Apart from franchises, the actor is reportedly in talks for some intense dramas. There is strong speculation about him joining the cast of the courtroom thriller Section 84. While discussions are reportedly ongoing, seeing him in a legal drama would be a delight for his admirers. Furthermore, riding high on the success of the spy genre, he is reportedly being approached for an Untitled Spy Thriller where he might play another intense antagonist, proving that his Dhurandhar success was no fluke. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}) Perhaps the most exciting update concerns his next big venture in the digital space. Akshaye Khanna is all set to star in the high-octane action thriller film titled Ikka which is being developed as a direct-to-OTT release for Netflix. This project marks a historic collaboration as it brings him back together with his Border co-star Sunny Deol after a massive gap of 28 years. Currently in the shooting stage, the film is helmed by director Siddharth P Malhotra. With an expected release in 2026, this Netflix original promises to be a treat for fans waiting to see this powerful duo share the screen again.
