The February clash ( Valimai vs Gangubai Kathiawadi)

Mumbai, 11th Feb 2022: South Superstar Ajith Kumar Starrer Valimai is all set to take the theatres via storm on 24 February. It will be an action thriller film written and directed by H. Vinoth and produced by Boney Kapoor. The trailer of Valimai was well appreciated by all audiences. Ajith Kumar will essay the role of a police officer in the movie. It will also have a release in Hindi. Zee studios bought the theatrical rights of this movie.

It will clash with Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial Gangubai Kathiawadi starring Alia Bhatt. The trailer of this movie too was lauded by the audience as well as the crtitics. Both movies are aiming at different types of audiences. Valimai is a pure commercial action thriller that the masses like to watch the other hand Gangubai Kathiawadi is a female-centric movie that is more for the classes. It will be very much interesting to see which movie creates the best impression on the public.

Nowadays Bollywood vs South debate is much more relevant and getting intense by the day. The trade analysts are keeping an eye on this big clash keenly to track the Indian audience preference of movies. In these tough times if both movies can get good WOM and do excellent business then it will be a big relief to the exhibitor sector which is facing losses in the current times.

Ajith is one of the most popular south actors in the northern belt and Valimai is looking auspicious and all set to ignite BO on fire. On the other hand, SLB is on back to back hit streeks after Bajirao Mastani and he wishes to maintain the same. We are hoping both movies become successful.

Stay tuned.

Jolly LLB 3 Box Office: Akshay Kumar, Arshad Warsi's Film Holds Decently In Third Weekend, Aiming For 115 Crore Finish

Mumbai, October 6 - Superstar Akshay Kumar's courtroom comedy drama Jolly LLB 3, co-starring Arshad Warsi, has had a decent hold in its third weekend at the domestic box office, despite the arrival of two new releases in the form of Kantara Chapter 1 and Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumar. Jolly LLB 3, which had already crossed 100 crores net during the second week, started its third weekend with 1.15 crores net, getting the advantage of Dusshera and Gandhi Jayanti holiday. It scored over 50% on Saturday for around 1.75 crores net, followed by another decent jump on Sunday to mint 2.15 crores. The Subhash Kapoor directorial minted approximately 5 crores net in its third weekend, pushing total net collection to 108 crores in 17 days. The third weekend trend, though, is on the lower level overall, indicating that the movie has some gas still left, which should help it reach 115 crores lifetime net collection. Jolly LLB 2 is currently the biggest grosser of the franchise with 117 crores net collections. It needs to be seen if the third instalment can cross that figure and become the biggest net grosser of the franchise. However, the movie needs to hold extremely well on the lower level to reach that mark. Stay tuned...

Sharvari Wagh Finalised As Female Lead Opposite Ahaan Pandey In Director Ali Abbas Zafar's Romantic Actioner

Mumbai, October 5 - After the memorable debut with director Mohit Suri's Saiyaara, actor Ahaan Pandey has reportedly teamed up with Ali Abbas Zafar for his next, which is said to be a romantic actioner. The movie will be produced by Yash Raj Films, which also backed the actor's blockbuster debut. According to the latest reports, talented actress Sharvari Wagh has been finalised to play the female lead role opposite Pandey, marking another fresh on-screen pairing. Sharvari is managed by the YRF talent agency, and this marks her third lead project with the studio after Bunty Aur Babli 2 (debut film) and the upcoming spy actioner Alpha. Earlier, it was reported that Ali Abbas Zafar "wanted to go back to his roots, to the genre that has given him so much love with his next film. He was blown away seeing Ahaan Panday and his aura with emotional and dramatic scenes in Saiyaara". Ahaan was reportedly picked as the lead hero after Aditya Chopra advised his name to Zafar. The yet untitled film is currently in the pre-production stage, with the script already locked. The makers are aiming to take it on floors by the first quarter of 2026, with late in a late-year or early 2027 theatrical release worldwide. Meanwhile, Sharvari will next be seen in Alpha, co-starring Alia Bhatt and Bobby Deol, which is scheduled to release on Christmas this year. Stay tuned...

Hrithik Roshan, Jr. NTR's Box Office Shocker War 2 OTT Release Update

Mumbai, October 4 - After the shocking theatrical run, Yash Raj Films' much-hyped spy thriller War 2 is now gearing up for its digital premiere, with a hope to change its fortune. The film, which was touted as one of the biggest events of the year, is scheduled to begin streaming on Netflix from October 8, 2025, in Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil. As a rule, War 2 will debut on digital platforms after completing its 8-week theatrical window, which is a must for a Bollywood film, unlike South Indian titles, which normally get available on OTT after 4 weeks, irrespective of their box office outcome. Despite sky-high expectations, War 2 failed to deliver at the box office. Being part of YRF's blockbuster Spy Universe and boasting a star-studded cast that includes Hrithik, Jr. NTR, and Kiara Advani, the sequel couldn't replicate the success of its predecessor and ended up as a box office shocker. With an estimated budget of over 400 crores, War 2 could only manage to gross around 365 crores worldwide, falling short of recovery and being tagged as a box office dud. The film opened to good numbers, but negative reviews and mixed word of mouth led to a steep drop in collections after the first weekend. While the Hindi version managed some numbers, the Telugu dubbed version underperformed drastically despite Jr NTR's presence. Now, with its Netflix release, War 2 will look to find a new life among home audiences who may have skipped its theatrical watch. Fans of the Spy Universe are still expected to tune in, especially as the film ties into the larger franchise storyline. Stay tuned...

Top 10 Biggest South Indian Opening Day Grossers At The Hindi Box Office: Pushpa 2 Rules As Kantara Chapter 1 Takes 8th Spot

Mumbai, October 3 - South Indian cinema continues to make a mark at the Hindi box office, and the latest to enter the race is Rishab Shetty's Kantara Chapter 1, which has taken a good start in the dubbed version, scoring 18.50 crore opening day. Among the top 10 biggest South Indian openers at the Hindi box office, Kantara 2 has secured the 8th spot. At the very top of the list is Allu Arjun's Pan India phenomenon, Pushpa 2: The Rule, which rewrote box office history with a mammoth 70 crore opening day in Hindi, which is a record. This number is far ahead of every other South release and firmly establishes Pushpa 2 as a true pan-India monster. Kannada superstar Yash's KGF Chapter 2 follows next with 54 crore net opening, a record that held strong until Pushpa 2 arrived. SS Rajamouli's epic blockbuster Baahubali 2: The Conclusion sits at number 3 with 41 crores net. It is worth noting that it was the Baahubali franchise, which originally opened the floodgates for South dominance in Hindi belts. Prabhas, easily the biggest South Indian star in the Hindi market, makes multiple entries in the top 10, with Saaho making it to the top 5, followed by his Kalki 2898 AD. Rajamouli's RRR, along with superstar Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar's sci-fi extravaganza 2.0, also entered the list with solid openings. Breaking into this power-packed list at No. 8, Kantara Chapter 1, which is the second Kannada movie in this coveted list. Unlike mass-heavy commercial entertainers like KGF or Pushpa, Kantara thrives on its unique storytelling, cultural rootedness, and mysticism, yet still managed to draw audiences in large numbers on day one. Prabhas' Salaar Part 1 - Ceasefire, followed by Ram Charan's Game Changer, and Jr. NTR's Devara Part 1, take the remaining spots in the list. The last two are the only films with less than 10 crores net openings in the list in the Hindi version. Varun Dhawan, Janhvi Kapoor's Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari Day 1 Early Estimates: Opens On Expected Lines

Mumbai, October 2 - Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor's rom-com Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari has taken a decent start at the box office. The film began on a fair note in the morning shows and made steady progress throughout the day, getting the benefit of the holiday. However, due to the tough competition with Rishab Shetty's Kantara Chapter 1, the movie failed to make a big impact despite the big holiday, particularly on single screens where the Kannada action drama enjoyed dominance. According to early estimates, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari has collected in the range of 9"ā€œ10 crore net on its opening day, which is broadly in line with trade expectations. The initial audience feedback is mixed, with appreciation performance and music, but divided opinions on the narrative and overall execution. With Saturday and Sunday still to come, the film's weekend trend will be crucial in determining whether it can consolidate its start and build momentum despite stiff competition. Stay tuned...

Mumbai, October 1 - Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar's courtroom comedy-drama Jolly LLB 3, co-starring Arshad Warsi, has entered the coveted 100 crore net club in India in 13 days, becoming the 10th Bollywood release of 2025 to breach the milestone. Directed by Subhash Kapoor, the third instalment of the hit franchise has carved its way to enter the 100 crores club after getting mixed to positive reception. The achievement further consolidates Akshay Kumar's box office legacy, as this marks his record 19th film to surpass the 100-crore net mark domestically. For Arshad Warsi, who reprises his much-loved role in the franchise, Jolly LLB 3 is his 4th film to achieve this milestone, reflecting his continued audience connect in multi-starrers and content-driven entertainers. Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor's Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumar Box Office Preview/Opening Day Expectations

Mumbai, October 1 - Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor's romantic comedy drama Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari is gearing up for release this Dussehra, amid some expectations. Directed by Shashank Khaitan, the film has managed to catch the attention with songs and trailer, which is aimed at the family audience. It has been certified U/A by the CBFC and carries a runtime of 2 hours 15 minutes. Varun Dhawan and Shashank Khaitan are a proven combo, having delivered box office hits like Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania and Badrinath Ki Dulhania, and the expectations are no different this time either. However, unlike in the past, there are challenges for the film this time. While the trade is expecting this combo to hit the bull's eye, the ground buzz doesn't seem to be that strong. The advance booking of the film was opened a couple of days ago, but it hasn't found momentum with less than a day to go for the release. The pre-sales are proceeding at a slow pace, with the big momentum missing that usually accompanies a festive release. So far, the movie has accumulated approximately 1.40 crore in pre-sales and is heading for a finish around 2.50"ā€œ3 crore gross for the opening day. This figure places the film below the advance sale of recent Bollywood releases like Jolly LLB 3 (3.23 crore gross) and Sitaare Zameen Par (3.30 crore gross), both of which managed to open in double digits on Day 1. Given the current trend, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari might struggle to reach that mark and is instead looking at an opening in the 8"ā€œ10 crore net range domestically. The film does, however, benefit from the Dussehra holiday, which could give a crucial boost to its spot bookings, especially in urban multiplexes. The challenge lies in single screens, where Kantara: Chapter 1 is enjoying stronger buzz and demand, making the competition tougher for Varun and Janhvi"ā„¢s outing. Directed by Shashank Khaitan and backed by Dharma Productions, the film also stars Sanya Malhotra and Rohit Saraf in supporting roles. With positive word of mouth and the holiday advantage, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari still has a chance to build momentum post its release, but its opening day numbers are likely to stay modest compared to recent big festive Bollywood launches. Rajinikanth's Coolie Final Worldwide Box Office Collection, Records, and Verdict

Chennai, September 29 "ā€œ Superstar Rajinikanth's mass entertainer Coolie has wrapped up its theatrical run at the global box office with mixed results. Despite a record opening and strong initial buzz, the film couldn't sustain the same momentum in the following weeks, leading to an average overall performance. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Coolie opened to earth earth-shattering start of over 150 crores worldwide, before opening weekend collection of around 385 crores, both record numbers for Tamil cinema. However, poor critics' reviews and mixed word of mouth proved to be a roadblock in its promising theatrical run, which ended before its desired result. The gangster action drama was eyed as the potential 1000 crores grosser, but it could only manage a little over 500 crores worldwide. The final collection, however, is not a small total by any means, but the movie needed to score much more to be termed as a box office hit. The trade estimated that Coolie needed to score around 600 crores worldwide to break even. Here Is The Final Worldwide Box Office Breakdown of Coolie (Est.) India Net Box Office Collection₹ 285.00 Cr India Gross Box Office Collection₹ 338.00 Cr Overseas Box Office Collection₹ 180.50 Cr Worldwide Box Office Collection₹ 518.50 Cr India Footfalls/Admits1.80 Cr approx. In terms of audience reach, Coolie recorded approximately 1.80 crore (estimated) footfalls in India, a decent turnout but considerably lower compared to Rajinikanth"ā„¢s biggest blockbuster, Jailer. The film opened huge, even scoring one of the biggest debuts of the year, but it lost the plot in the coming weeks, which curtailed its long-run potential. Given the huge pre-release business and expectations riding on it, the film's outcome has been tagged as a below-average to average verdict at the box office. While not a disaster, Coolie couldn't replicate the superstar's past blockbuster highs and will be remembered as a film that started big but settled for a modest finish in the end. Stay tuned...
