Mumbai, February 13 - Kranti which is one of the biggest blockbusters ever from the Hindi film industry was released exactly 41 years ago on this date to a smashing box office response. The film was immensely hyped and was the biggest budgeted film of that time.

Kranti started its box office run with the record-breaking first-day number in practically all the circuits. It smashed all previous initial records. The film then went on to do the record business in Delhi, UP, Rajasthan, Punjab, and a few other circuits. When Kranti was released it was the fastest earning film overtaking even the legendary Sholay. Kranti had higher business than Sholay in the first run through Sholay went ahead with an unbelievable re-run business.

Kranti had a huge ensemble star cast with legendary Dilip Kumar playing one of the main leads along with Manoj Kumar. The film also had a huge supporting cast like Shashi Kapoor, Shatrughan Sinha, Hema Malini, and Parveen Babi among others. Manoj Kumar who was the director of the film had an unbelievable track record as not only did he star in some legendary blockbusters like Dus Numbari, Sanyasi, and Roti Kapda Aur Makaan but also directed them.

Kranti was the 2nd biggest hit of the 1980s decade behind Maine Pyar Kiya. Though Kranti was watched by more audience than Maine Pyar Kiya, The making cost of Kranti was too huge which stopped the film to get the highest classification verdict All time blockbuster. In terms of business with today's ticket prices, Kranti's adjusted gross collections would be around 950cr.
